Yea, the 348's pretty rare, but not as rare as the 409. A vintage car would be a better choice vehicle for the engine, but I like being a little different (stranger) than the norm. When I open the hood people will be expecting to see a 6 banger, SBC or BBC, Nothing wrong with those, its just me...

Cammed small block, 4 speed, bagged, manual steering.
Always starts. I try to keep it off the icy roads in the winter though.

Thanks Boog, it is GM truck med. blue. 1 cheap repaint original color. They didn't repaint the insides of the doors or door jambs so I could see it was pretty rust free when I bought it.

Here's my soon to be daily driver. As soon as I get the lights working it'll be taking me to work most days this summer.

Thanks for the nice words Keith, I didn't even own a computer when I put it together in '97. It's always been a low budget ride, but also the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, and always loads of fun.

There's no build thread, but it looked like this when I bought it.

Re: daily drivers

Formerly mine, I used to drive this bad boy 60 miles daily as my commuter/work truck. Finally got tired of eating valves, electrical fires and 9mpg, so I wound up selling it in favor of my much more reliable '68 Dodge Dart (16 mpg ain't bad either)

Re: daily drivers

I don't daily drive my 67-72s anymore since winter driving them will ruin them. I use my trucks daily once the second good rain has fallen after the last salt. If I lived where salted roads wasn't an issue I would only be driving these trucks, as I did for 20+ years.

Here is one of my former daily drivers. I drove it till the cab was rotted too much because I couldn't fix it and still use it to earn my living. The last two pictures are once I retired it. Notice the condition of cab. First picture was '88, second and third were in '92. I put the running board on to try to save it. And yes, I washed it out at least once a week all winter long. After plowing it went straight to the car wash, too, before removing the plow:
