Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Not a lot of picture worthy progress mainly just wiring and plumbing things correctly. But I needed some motivation so I test drove it! Just around the block but I made sure to leave rubber at every stop. No cops even showed up despite the open headers and no bed. I ended up going with the core shifter and it's great feeling, the forward to back throw with a 14" stick is only about 4 inches. Should have the truck more drivable here shortly.

Nice and bright. I like that you're keeping the original steering wheel (?) looks identical to mine even the rust pits on the shifter. I'll probably replace shifter it's worse than yours. Keep up the fire I like this build. And the production line markings are still on your firewall, kind of wish I didn't paint over mine already.

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Got exhaust done last week, did 2.5" with MagnaFlow mufflers. Still need to build seat brackets for the buckets, and lower the front. I've been driving it though and having a blast! The steering is great with the mid 80s power steering box and LS pump. Here's a shot of the interior so far.

Well here it is somewhat complete. Lowered the front two inches, did mcgaphys front disc conversion. Put 5 lug axles in and got some wheels.

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Im not usually a fan of long beds, but I LOVE the look of this truck. I think you nailed it, and with an LS swap and 6 speed, this is a truck I'd love to have!

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Thank you! It truly motivated me too keep going getting the compliments on here.
This thing is so fun to drive, and I've been driving the $#!t out of it. The t56 makes the whole truck and the power from the 5.3 is really good too (too much for the ls1 clutch...) Here's a cool shot from yesterday. I'll get a video driving up a killer grade here soon too. |

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
when you say the 5.3 makes too much power for the clutch, do you mean it makes enough power it just slips?

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
I'm thinking that's what's going on. When going from first to second on a hard pull it's slipping. If I don't just stab the clutch to shift it works fine. But where's the fun in that?

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Yeah, stock LS1 clutches are meh. Bone stock with 30K miles mine was slipping if driven hard. Like hitting second aggressivly. Annoying. They will live like that for a long time. Remember that GM had to safeguard the little 7.5 rear in those f-bodies. Aggressive clutch was out of the question. Master cylinders were purposely choked down to make high RPM violent shifting difficult/impossible. Fourth gens were/are good, but that 7.5 really killed what could have been a fantastic car for several reasons.

Re: 67 Longbed GMC Patina 5.3 T56 Driver
Call up monster clutch when you're ready to swap it out. They are EXTREMELY popular for LS based vehicles. Can give you what you're looking for at a reasonable price. They are certainly the go-to one LS1tech. I've got a stage 3 from them waiting in my garage.
