Quick road trip this evening after work to collect some eBay wins for Grizz and Martin as the seller was closer to me than either of them and shipping was expensive.
I’ve roped them into helping me do a few jobs on my truck this weekend so I’ll deliver them to Grizz’s place when I pop up there for a C-10 working party on Saturday morning.
The seller was a really nice guy called Mike who happens to own this beauty.

He’s not on here (yet) but I’ve told him what a cool and friendly place this is so hopefully he’ll sign up and we will see a bit more of his ’66 truck.

Anyway, boxes of goodies on the way to Martin and Rian………….

Thought that would get your attention.

Last year Harley the Thug, garage cat ate both Blue Tit babies.

So I removed the nest over winter, then put up a new nesting box on the other side of the garage, this morning I saw that they were back, and had started padding the new nesting box with poopy paper.

Where do they find clean poopy paper??

Anyway, it's good to see them back.



The towbar has it's second coat of Hammerite.

Today I bought new 8.8 high tensile bolts for all the fittings oft he towbar as well as a pair of even higher spec collared Allen head bolts to make into fixing pins, along with the R-Clips I was given on Monday by the local spares shop.

Measured, then ground flat aspects for the drill to take to, drilled through (sacrificing some bits in the process) and then tidied them up.






This means the towbar is now complete, ready to fit once the truck is ready for reassembly.

Thanks guys, I guess it just shows that most of us are not one dimensional, so we have varied interests.

Nicola had to help a severely disabled school friend move from a two bedroom flat, to a one bedroom unit in a warden controlled housing estate as her movement is severely impaired by various health issues including a very buggered spine.

So she was not home from 08.00 to 17.30

This left me in charge......

Wrapped up, new bolts, assembled and packed away.

Not bad for an amalgam of Jeep Cherokee and Mercedes A Class tow bars.



Remember the kart frame I bought last year?

Meet my crashed 2005 Honda CG125 with only 14k miles, and a bent, buckled front end. Think marriage or Frankenstein.

Bought off Martin's step son who crashed it at recovery/scrap value, it will be stashed in the garage till the right time.



Today was booked at my place for Kerry, Disasterbus and Martin to come over so we could do some jobs to Kerry's Patina 64 Short Stepper.

Kerry had picked up our spares earlier this week including my pair of expensive but on inspection really good vent or quarter windows. Today he swung by Martin's place to pick up the little buckled Honda for me on their way over here.



So when they got here, I had Kerry reverse his truck and the bike down the drive, then we all had a cuppa tea and a chat, followed by unloading the bike and all the parts n bits Kerry and Martin had brought along.

One of the planned jobs was to weld in the rear roll pan bought at the NHRA Swapmeet recently.
But before that happened Kerry needed to try out the Ford side step that Martin had managed to rescue from a skip a few weeks ago as a potential rear bumper.

As it was before.



A lot to be said for car ramps.



Something useful from Ford.

Got the bumper to size and gave Martin some toys.

Modifying Kerry's straight six, which is soooooo sweet !!






Later on we were joined by MercDan and his petrol head son George, Ian our former housemate, and Mickey next door were all here.
Ian's main job was to do all the cooking, he is an accomplished "Tong Master" and managed the BBQ brilliantly.
Through the day, we were joined by Ta2Don traveling across America, so everyone did a Hallo to Don here.

Later, passing a Tennessee flag, about an hour West of Knoxville.

Just love technology......



In the mean time, Ian carried on with the cooking duties.

At some point we all poured into the house and scoffed ourselves stupid on three types of sausages, spicy chicken wings, pork belly, chilli chicken breast strips and rolls..... A proper mans BBQ.




After lunch we carried on with various jobs, electrical mainly, Martin sorting a load of bad connections, and fitting new switches in the cab etc.





Kerry fixed and fitted the rear bumper.





And finally the highlight of the day........ New lights under the bumper as well.




An absolutely awesome day, spent with like minded folks.

Today we went to the first boot fair of the year this morning early. Brrrrrrr.... Cold @ 3'C in a field with a breeze.

And as most of you know, we love boot fairs n swapmeets because there are bargains to be had or negotiated.

Each item was 50p and the Moon thermometer works, accurately. Hammer to join my formidable collection of hammers.




Then came back, washed the MX5 as there is an interested buyer. Who then called an hour later to say he could not get hold of a mechanic friend who needs to guide him in buying and he needs to check the internet on pricing. I feel a time waster coming up.

what a great day spent with old trucks and new friends. you guys got a lot accomplished and that rear bumper does look cool... but to me the highlight was the food and that grill, wow, it is fantastic. i gotta build one of those.

Hi Clem, thanks for checking in.

When I built it, Nicola expected a little 3x3 foot structure on which to make a fire and cook a few burgers.

By the end she said she wanted to apply for its own post code.

I can tell you what's better than the grill, the food on it . Ian did a great job cooking while we were working on the trucks .

Clem if you get all the materials ready we are over long enough in October to knock one up . Well Rian can I will just Watch him work for once

Clem, FYI........ Some Afrikaans words, as they pertain to the art of burning meat on a fire or coals.

Braai = BBQ
Boerie/wors = A traditional coarse ground beef sausage.

The weather does not seem to want to play ball at the moment.

I am doing various little jobs that I can "pack away" once they are done, till it is time to reassemble.

I do not know if it was clear from my previous rant, just how lacking the chrome and finish was on the 67-72 rear bumper I had bought for he truck.

One of the problems with this sort of low rent and shoddy finish, is that one then needs to spend time and money to prevent it from self destructing in a years time.

So I bought two cans of RustOleum Zinc spray, and a can of Aluminium finish spray paint.

Looking at the difference in thickness and quality between the front and rear bumpers I have bought, it is pretty obvious which is the rear one.



Masking up took the most time, but we know preparation is what it is all about.





Not exactly pretty, but once the silver is on there as well, I will be happy that they have a fighting chance against wet and road grime in years to come.

Yes Murphy's law is in my garage everyday. I have painted my dash 3 times. The first time I got a huge drip came out of the top of the gun for no (*&(*&)(&)* reason. Second time it was a dry spray. 3rd times the charm everything went perfect except at the end I had that buggers couisin land on the driver side and endulge himself in the paint. Luckily though once the paint got tacky I grabbed a pair of tweezer and fished him out. But he left his mark nonetheless. Its an old truck and I am not going to paint the dash again. :P

something about insects and the smell of paint...happened to me everytime...The guys used to laugh at me clearcoating bees when i was spraying parts at the old shop

Indeed Bret. Still, it is so bloody irritating when you are trying to get it right.

Just back from the garage.

I bought a tin of "Aluminium" coloured paint, wanting the silveriest paint I could get to go over the Zinc paint.

Well, sprays less than it splatters, paint stopped coming out of nozzle halfway through the job, so half a can of paint I cannot get out, going back to the shop to return it tomorrow, and maybe buy some silver paint for the rear bumper.

I really am just adding the silver paint to the rears to match the chrome as the zinc is more dull and grey like primer.

So this was the result, fine for what it is, but not as good as I expected or want.

I popped in at the spares shop on my way to work this morning and traded the half can of paint for a tin of silver wheel paint.

Came home tonight and repainted the front bumper and painted the rear one as well.
Both got two coats of paint with an extra pass or two over the bolt holes.

I am now quite happy that these will survive for a while, and not look like throne I took off, too soon.

Colour on photo is slightly deceptive as it is a bit lighter than shown.



I also got offered a set of four of these by a friend today, as I mentioned I needed to build another moving trolley.



Looking forward to building another "tool"
