Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
We have been kind of busy putting the truck together and now am impatiently waiting for the Interior to return from the upholster. We are starting to get the bed wood ready and its just about done. I hope to have the bed installed and the wood in this weekend, but it may not happen to the following weekend. I think we are trying to cram to much into one weekend and now that my Son started College the progress has slowed down a lot. Well here are the pictures of the progress to this point.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Awesome progress and results. I noticed on your heater core hose connections, the hoses point straight up. You may want to install a factory heater core with the 90 degree bends in the inlet and outlet to avoid kinks in the hoses. After several hot/cold cycles, they will get week and fail.
I am not being critical, rather trying to help you avoid any problems down the road. The project is awesome. Last edited by LILRED66; 10-01-2009 at 08:05 PM. |

Ordered a correct heater core and its on the way. I was just telling my Son about how the correct one has the 90's so the hoses wont get stressed. I cant waite to get my Carpet Kit so I can finish putting the interior together. If it were'nt for a few road blocks (Parts) I could have this thing completely put together. I guess this is where I am supposed to have patients. JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Here are a few pictures of this weeks progress. Its been a lot of hurry up and wait this week. We are still waiting on the carpet kit. I am about to pull the few strands of hair I have left in my head out. Ok enough Ranting. I am now going to post pictures of the Seat my Son Purchased and Designed. I am also going to post pictures of the spray in bedliner my Son and I sprayed in this weekend. I also want to take this opprotunity to tell a little story about my Son who I am very Proud of. We put a set of shorty headers on this truck about 3 years ago and then parked it. Recently when we got it started we noticed a ticking noise coming out of the Passenger side Header. We pulled it off and put a level across the surfaces where they mate to the head. One of them had about a gap of I would say about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch different from the other mating surfaces. I looked at it and told my son that we probably should take it to a machine shop and have it fixed. Then we both looked at it and decided to try and fix it ourselves and My Son layed one of the most beautiful beads of weld around that entire opening and then I grinded it down until it matched the other ports. We put it back on the truck and it doesn't leak anymore. We were both very happy that we didn't have to spend another $100 at the Machine Shop (YAHOO)!!! Ok now for the pictures.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Its a tintable Hippo Liner. It was really easy to Mix and Apply. It took us longer to mask and apply the wire tape than it did to shoot it. I have used Raptor Liners and Now the Hippo Liner. I think I like the way the Hippo covers better than the Raptor Liner. Problem is the bed I shot with the Raptor liner was full of pits and the bed was really beat up. On this shoot with the Hippo Liner my Sons bed was really strait, so that may be the difference between the two products I have used. I can say that both Sprayable liners are really easy to apply. One thing I did learn about the tintable bed liners is that it is wise to shoot a cheap Omni single stage over the bed and then sand it before you shoot the tintable liner. I had heard horror stories about the liner showing the color through the applied liner so if it used to be green it would have Green Streaks showing through the bed liner. It cost about $40 to shoot the bed, the rails, bolt heads and the Tailgate with MTK Omni Single Stage so it was pretty cheap to be on the safe side.
That seat is something isn't it!!!LOL JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Wish I would have thought about that liner before I re-sprayed mine. Oh well, there's always next time.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
ROU Upholstery. This guy is a Friend of a Friend and he works for a price that cant be beat. He charged $300 for this seat. He is a little slow on getting it done but he does a great job. This is the Second Seat he has done for me and I know the quality could be a little better but for the price you cant beat it. I think once we get this thing in the truck with the rest of the interior it will be a little less loud. The interior is Red and White so it only fits with the color scheme.

Did you make the hose support that is attached to the hoses where they come out of the heater box? It looks like it attaches to the hoses and supports the 90 degree necks coming out of the heater core. Is this something that was on the truck Stock or is it something you fabbed? JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Here are a few pics of the interior. We still have a few things to do but its getting there. We put on the Grant Steering wheel today and the Turn Signals cancel and the horns work. We spent about two hours trying to get that thing installed and the Instructions were about useless. But we figured it out without throwing to many tools. I will post a few more pictures of the truck tomorrow because my batery in my camera died. This has been an eye opening weekend and I can say I know a little more about these old trucks than I knew before this weekend started. Frame Rails, Cross Members, Doors and Steering Wheels just to name a few. By the way thanks again for all the help this weekend with the inquiries I made about the bed and the doors.
