I say keep it 6, keep it low, and keep it long. My suggestion for the build is to some how incorparate your business into it. You know, what it is, what it's all about, and maybe a logo on it somewhere. Some what similar to what Mark did in his truck build and his band.

All this talk about longbed vs shortbed, why not meet in the middle with a 7' bed. I think it would look pretty cool.

Re: Just scored the replacement.....63 custom cab, bbw !!!

You want to sell the cab? Just kidding. Great find. I scored a 60 Shortwide with a big back window as a parts truck and let the cab go for next to nothing and I am still kicking myself. Should have kept it.

Will you be keeping that vacuum manifold on the intake or taking it off? I wouldn't mind having that part.

Re: Just scored the replacement.....63 custom cab, bbw !!!

I remember you saying that there were newer drop springs under the rear. What would you say they are? 3" or 4" drop? I just cut the front springs in the front of my truck and I love the new height but the rear needs to come down now. It seem like the springs you got on there would be just what I'm lookin for. I ask because it's difficult to judge as I'm pretty certain my stock springs are most likely sagging a bit and I ant to try to avoid getting less or worse more of the drop I'm looking for.

Re: Just scored the replacement.....63 custom cab, bbw !!!

Well...lets see. I mentioned early in this thread the tips of the rear bumpstop were about 3/4 to 1" away from touching the axle. I think Jonz mentioned what drop they were.

Although, I did find a "Classic 6102" printed on the FRONT springs though. I saw that when I jacked the thing up to inspect the NASTY tranny leak it has.

Turns out it's coming from the dipstick tube....also due to the fact the tranny is overfilled half way up the tube !!

I guess since the tranny had no forward gears, the PO decided to keep adding fluid untill it did !!

Someday, I will work on it....Pops was getting upset about me lagging, and now I am 'chained' to the Vette. (check out 'alternate tinkerings' for more updates)

Thinking about using the 700R4 behind that sixer...should work out good.

Re: Just scored the replacement.....63 custom cab, bbw !!!

Thanks. I'll look for the post. The power glide I bought for my truck was over full when I got it. Mainly due to all the water in it pushing the fluid out. Probably had more water than trans fluid in it. Obviously I had to rebuild. But works great now. I dont see any reason not to use a 700r4 trans behind an I6. Heck you might even get better milage. Good luck on the project.

Re: Just scored the replacement.....63 custom cab, bbw !!!

john, Looks like things are coming along with the new truck, What are your plans to hook up the 700R4 to the I6? I was told the kick-down and throttle linkage would be hard to adapt to the one barrel carb and very difficult if I used twins or triple carbs. I was advised to just use a turbo 350. What is the true story?

CUT IT DOWN!! That first pic shows its just too long. You had a long, why not have a 1st place short? Dont be a loser, be a winner. Go with the short bed. Fact is short beds are better, longs are farm trucks. End of story! "Oooh thats nice. Oh, its a long bed".
