Damn that is what my truck looked like in 78, that is one fine example of a new truck, only much better and shiner than the factory could ever produce.
I have forgotten what it was like to have a new truck!!

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have been dragging my feet with getting this thing back out because I knew it was going to require a serious tear down and clean up. I was correct. It took 6 long weekends and several late week nights to get it where it is. I still have several bugs to fix, but it is driveable once again.

Thanks to Keith (n2billet) for the motivation, and Keith (lolife99) for the pics.

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Its been a while since I have posted here so its time to update. I sold an 84 GMC last year and the buyer preferred my 20" Vintecs over the 22" Racelines so we worked a deal. I put the Raceline Static 5s on to see how they looked. Everyone seemed to like them but me so I pulled them and put a set of Coys on for now. Before you ask. the Racelines are sold and the Coys are not for sale.

While I was playing swap the wheel I realized its been a few years since the 77 had any real love. I have talked about it several times, and had a couple dozen renderings done but life keeps taking me away from working on it.

In February while attending Lonestar Throwdown with my latest build "Scarlett" on display in the American racing booth I was asked by several people when the 77 was coming back out. I made a commitment to my wife and my nephew Chris that it would reappear at LST 2018. I try to be a man of my word, so I feel that making a public commitment I'm giving my word it will happen.

I have been talking to various vendors gathering info on products I plan to use. There will be several updates and some noticeable changes. For those that have always complimented its timeless looks, dont worry. The changes made should be ones that meet your approval.

Once I get a few more things worked out I will post a build thread. Until them heres the latest pic I have with the Raceline Static 5s mounted up.

WooHoo!

I will say you are not alone on the Static 5's on this truck. I don't think it fits either. BUT, had I not ever seen this one before with the Vintec's, then I might feel different.

Can't wait to see what you and Chris come up with on this one!

BTW, your other recent trucks, you have given them a name. Does this one have a name other than "Ken's Black '77"?

Thanks guys. I have been working with several vendors lining up various parts that I will need for the build. I will have some exciting news very soon.
Regarding a name, I don't have one yet. I may have to consult my buddy Keith (N2billet) He has always had great names for his builds.

I have been trying to focus on wrapping up the Kicker Audio install in Scarlett. She needs to be ready for C10s in the Park in September.

Meanwhile I have been working with American Racing wheel, and Carter Hickman on the wheels. Carter has some incredible ideas and I am super excited to watch this visionary work his magic.

That's awesome, I can't wait to see the wheel choice. I'm still trying to get motivated to do anything on mine. I'm torn between American Racing, US Mags, Intro, Billet Specialties and Raceline. I got set up to be a dealer for AR and US mags for that reason.

I cant tell you what or when, but I can tell you American racing is working on several new designs. They plan to release them before SEMA.

Awesome! Love this truck! Lucky you're not going back with Vintecs- a buddy of mine always uses them and went to buy a set for his current build. Shocking was an understatement. He's putting on AR Salt Flats. Can't wait to see the next stage!

Re: Retro-Tech- 77

Not much of an update, but the process has begun. I needed to move the 77 to chase some garage wiring so I decided to charge the battery and roll it outside. Its covered with dust, but enjoying the daylight.
I have been discussing plans with several vendors, and I hope to have more big updates on products that I will be using. I'm still looking for a proper title for the project. I have a few ideas but not of them seem to be the right one. The truck has never had a rear name so I may go that way.

Hi beautiful truck! I want to convert my grill to a 73-74 grille like you and i was wondering if the grille you have is the same from LMC? I think I was your other thread saying you purchased it from someone named Tim and was just wondering if it was different and why you didn't buy it from LMC. unless its the same and got it for cheaper. Thanks!

The interior will be looked at last. I have some ideas, but nothing is firm yetI looked at several options, and these seem to offer the best bang for the buck. I found lights a lot cheaper, and some that were much more expensive. These fall in the middle and have received good reviews from the Jeep crowd.

Here's a sneak peak of a little progress...

Thats a nice and shinny! where exactly does the bezle not match the color of the grille? or where you referring to the 77 grille? I really want this style grille and hope the one im buying from LMC also has a nice chrome shinny edge like yours. It hard to tell on the LMC picture they have. I might need to call but does anyone know if its the same? thank you

The inner 'bowl' of the headlight bezel is a darker shade of gray vs. the inserts on the grille. It's common to see the colors vary. A simple top coat of your choice on both will make them consistent. I had to do the same thing for my later model grille/headlight bezels as well.
