Re: Project: BLOWNUP

So as I had mentioned earlier my oil pan had a leak so I ordered a finned alum. oil pan and fly wheel cover to match my tranny pan. I also at boost/vac gauge to match my tranny temp guage. As soon as they come in I will post some pics and pics of everything when they are installed so stay tuned

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

My alum. pans came in today and as well as my boost gauge. I got the gauges installed on my shifter crover where I want them. Now I just have to wire them. I also got my radio rewired. The radio is out of a 99ish chevy and it works for what I need in this truck. It had a ground issue, so I got that figured out and I once again have some tunes.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

As I said earlier I found a 12 bolt rear end out of a 75 C10 with 3.73 gears and a locker in it. I was going to just pull the axles out so I could use the brakes off my truck and just take off the backing plates. When I went to take out the cross shaft out of the carrier was stuck. It would slide about half way out and then nothing. So I took it to a local shop and they worked on it and ended up braking the H block that was in the carrier. Was not happy. So I pulled a posi carrier out of another rear end had. I switched the ring gear went to set it in the case and carriers where different series so I am not waiting on a ring gear spacers. I will post once I have the rear end all back together.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Here are pics of the broken H block from inside the carrier, and the cross pin after we had to cut it a few times to drive it out. WE had to cut into the back side of the carrier to get the H block out so we could get the C clips off, and these are some of the pieces we had left over. The carrier was totally shot.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

My car club had our annual car show and drag races this last weekend. Here is a video of me racing my buddy's 69 Camaro RS. The city lets us shut down a street on the edge of town and do some 8th mile races. Its one of the reasons are show brings in 250-300 cars a year. The Camaro has a 355 and we just put in a 4.11 and a locker in the rear. So I don't fell too bad since I still have an open carrier with 2.73 gears. My brother shot the video while riding along on his phone so the quality isn't the greatest.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Update on the truck. During my drag race I found out the hard way I put in the wrong front oil pan gasket. Blew oil every where. I picked up a one piece fel-pro oil pan gasket. I pulled the truck out to take it to a friends house to replace the gasket and the storage unit floor was just covered in red transmission fluid. I have just replaced the front pump seal and transmission pan gasket so I don't think it is either of those two leaking. I am afraid I may have a cracked transmission case and that is where all the fluid is coming from. I plan on pulling the transmission as soon as I can. The joys of hot rodding.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I am getting ready to change out the rear end in my truck. It currently has a 10bolt with the bigger drum brakes. I am switching to a 12 bolt that had the narrower drum brakes. My plan it to put the bigger drum brakes on the 12 bolt rear end. My only question is are the axels from the 12 bolt going to be long enough. Any help would be great.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Update the ring gear spacer I ordered in Aug has been back ordered and the estimated ship date is Feb. So I cancelled that and I am going to order a set of 3.90 gears and an Auburn limited slip for the 10 bolt already under the truck.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I have solved my transmission problem. I am going to switch out the th350 for a th400. I forgot I had one hidden away in my grandpa's garage. Has anyone done one of these swaps before. Do I need a different Yoke, Torque Converter??? Any help would be great.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Blown Up is getting some major upgrades. As I said before I am going to install a th400 transmission. I am also going to have the motor rebuild. I have figured out all the details for engine rebuild.
*Block bored and line honed.
*All new bearings.
*Crank checked and cleaned up if needed.
*Dart SHP Heads.
*Speedpro Forged Pistons.
*Summit Stage II Connecting Rods.
*Summit 6qrt Street/Strip oil pan.
*ARP Head Studs
*ARP Main Studs
*ARP Engine Hardware
*Comp Cams High Energy 1.5 Roller Rockers
*Ceramic Coated 1.5" Primary Long Tube Headers
*Fabbed Aluminum Valve Covers
*Auburn Posi Carrier

This set up should give me about an 8.7:1 compression ration and allow me to run 5lbs of boost with out having to worry about blowing through the pistons. I should also make about 500hp
I will post pic of parts as they show up and pictures or any progress made on BLOWN UP.

Cool Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Finished up the top end. The rockers on the intake valves where hitting the head studs so we had to clearance them a little bit so they would not rub. Other wise the build went together smooth. Also fabbed up some custom valve covers for this little blower motor. I think it turned out great cant wait to get it in to the truck. Used ARP studs on the top and bottom end and MLS head gaskets from MR. Gasket

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

Happy 4th of July. Being a vet I enjoy this day a little more then the average Joe. I have been making some progress on the truck. I got the motor and trans back in the truck and working on all the small details. The weather has not be helping me out any. I am currently in a rain delay. The big project this morning was my new alum radiator. The one I ordered was a summit special and was smaller then the stock one I had so I had to make some new mounting brackets. Thankfully we have an amazing fab shop at work and I was able to through something together real quick. Well enough talk here are the pics.

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I am having some technical difficulties with my phone and computer so here is a like of my truck idling in the drive way.
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...ideo_processed

And here is a link of my truck racing the same Camaro from last years car show. Track is an issue with the blower and the 4.56 had installed.

Same race at about half track. Don't mind my fiancé's color commentary LOL

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

So the truck needed seat belts so I went to the local scrap yard and found a set, they just happen to be in a set of bucket seats out of an 02 Avalanche. The seats sat real high with the factory adjusters. So I pulled them off and they sit about the perfect height. The problem now is the floor pan in these trucks are not flat so I will have to make some brackets. These were power seats so there was a lot of left over parts LOL

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

i was doing to online research about new seats with built in belts and the problem is that they have a support bracket on the newer trucks and when swapped to old trucks you basically have a death seat since all that is going to hold to hold you down is some thin piece of metal in case of a car wreck and fly out with seat and everything? just a heads up not sure if true but sounds logical to me

Re: Project: BLOWNUP

I was concerned about that also. My plan for some added strength is to make a bracket out of 3/8"x1" metal strap and weld the seat to that and then bolt it to the truck in about 6 or 8 spots and run some heavy duty washers under the truck.
