![]() I can't imagine the feeling when I get to step into the cab, fire her up, and light em' up for the first time with my dad. I can tell you now, it's a moment I'll remember for the rest of my life. ![]()

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive them because over many years I've built them for customers and some of them really hit a nerve when they pulled out of the driveway and the owner had a grin like a cheshire cat and another one took it's place and I had the feeling of " OK , Here we go again whats this beauty hiding under all the orange peel and blistered peeling paint '? ...So now that I'm basically retired and moved out to the country where you can still light up the tires and not see blue flashing lights in your mirror I get the chance to remember when it was fun and not work . it gives hand sanding with a paint paddle a whole new outlook because now when it pulls out of the driveway it's me smiling like the cat who ate the canary !

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
For me, I enjoy the fact that I brought her back from near death. When I picked her up, she was barely running and could tell she wanted to be rescued. Although she may not be as "pretty" as a lot of others on the road, we share a bond that we experience every drive.
There's just something about bringing an old vehicle back to life for me. I also like that she is has a 292 with a 3OTT which I don't see much of anymore and people tend to tell me stories about how they first learned to drive with a 3OTT and are happy to see one still on the road. |

I have nothing else, no fancy accessories to distract me, and the sound of the engine. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive my 1970 C10...it does not drive me...we also own a 2011 Wrangler and compared to the C10 it kinda drives itself...cruise control...and all the latest technology but my husband drives a 1975 Plymouth Scamp as his daily driver and it is the same mind set as the C10...you gotta pay attention...scan the gauges...watch the speedometer etc...it seems that the older vehicles touch those of us that own them in a special way that the newer vehicles never will...Marla

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I go a lot of places that are impractical to walk to.
Other people and stuff can go with me. Teleportation has not been perfected. I can't install a stereo system on a horse without violating the laws of nature. There are no songs about a Prius driving to a levy. I like to piss off tree hugging wackos.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive it because I'm cheap. It still hauls or tows anything I want it to, and I don't want to spend $50,000 for a new one.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive my truck for all the reasons you have mentioned . Just add the following:
I'm excited when people appreciate my truck and ask me questions , I have also seen people who take photos on the freeway when I'm driving . Or doing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These trucks : are so easy to fix and there are thousands of parts that can be adapted . If I handle a BMW or a Mercedes 'm sure not many people would go back looking like they do at my truck: |

Purely for pleasure - and it feels and sounds so much better than the commuters in the family..

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive mine because it's simple,I built it for the same reason,it's also trustworthy,I would take it across the country before a newer vehicle. If I wanted to feel extra secure I could buy a completely rebuilt drivetrain for three grand and store in the bed along with a breakdown cherry picker and tools and have some serious peace of mind.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
To haul things. I load concrete blocks, mix, plywood, etc. I also tow my travel trailer with it. Our little econoboxes don't fill the bill except for putting around town or short hops to visit family, locally.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
Sound nice, look nice, smell good, feel good and simple. Reliable, or should be. Great kick-around truck or classic restoration. Happy to say I have both. One no rust, the other is the polar opposite, but I'd still rather drive it than my Toyota Tundra

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I can’t justify owning a vehicle I don’t drive. Plus mine is very reliable, never let me down in the two years I’ve owned it.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
when I was 16,I started my apprenticeship in auto mechanics, (1979) the tow truck was a 1968 C30 with a holmes 440 on it,the shop truck was a 1971 GMC 1/2 ton,I drove them both,so when I went looking for a truck I bought a 1967 Chevy 1/2 ton/283 with a granny gear 4 speed and a 3/4 rear end,I bought it off a farmer who cut wood, hence the swapped out rear end,My next truck came from a customer at the shop,a 1972 Cheyenne Super,Black with blue houndstooth interior,402 BB,nice truck, then a 1971 Cheyenne, 1971 C/10,and a few others I can't remember,I now have My 1970 which I have done totally over and should be on the road next week after 2 years of building,so having said all that,I drive these trucks cause after 40 years I get the same feeling I did when I drove the 1971 GMC for the first time in 1979.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I don't get to drive it or tinker w it that much . I work a lot it , pretty much never ends (plumbing) which is a good thing don't get me wrong . I'm constantly trying to please people . But when I (rarely) get to drive my truck , I AM pleased for that short period of time . And stressed sometimes too hahaha .

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
Been driving them all my life. I just stayed with them because I liked everything about them. They were modern enough to roll along with anything that came out new but were getting into the older truck category more every year. I got more and more familiar with them, they came in so many configurations to cover my needs, parts interchanged & available, it was a practical decision as well as being cool. No brainer.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I wanted a rusted old truck that was parked in the front yard with a tree growing up through it, but the HOA frowns on that sort of thing. So, I drive it.

Re: Why do you drive your truck?
I drive my truck because it reminds me of the era that I feel I should’ve been born in.
I drive it because it’s from back when they actually made trucks, not truck body’s on cushy car components. I drive it because I can be having the worst day ever and it really just makes everything else not matter. I drive it because I love the patina and not having to worry about a little scratch or rock chip. I drive it because it’s just plain awesome, and nothing sounds like a small block with long pipes. I drive it because real trucks don’t shift themselves ![]() I also love all the thumbs up and smiles I get all of the time, people are constantly either talking to me about it, complimenting me on it, or trying to buy it haha And I drive it because I actually make use of the long bed. Just today hauling soffit and some metal for the garage:
