Wow, this was a ways back here. I actually have a bit of progress, but no pictures (big surprise). Old engine and trans are out (and sold, finally!!!), working on cleaning the grunge off of the frame and getting everything else going. I have been playing around with a lot of the small stuff. I got the pedal fabbed up, engine and trans are together and sitting on the floor, and a lot of the small stuff is here, waiting to go. I am still up in the air about the fuel system, probably from overthinking it. I have had an in tank pump, sold it and decided to run the existing dual tank setup with an inline pump just ahead of the manual switching valve. Now I am thinking about just running an in tank pump with a single tank. Who knows what I will end up with; hopefully it will run. I also have my doors and fenders at the shop with the idea of getting the insides colorized and going on the truck. Not a lot of progress there, either. I guess I do have one picture, one of the "good" front door after we stripped the paint off.

It was about 60 when I went in last night about 1. It is 28 right now, and windy.

I know for Houston which is where I live we're probably hitting record lows for a change or since a couple years ago. Right now in Houston it's 27 but feels like 8 outside so yeah staying warm is no problem for me

I think the Vortec Max is a 6.0.

I used the Dirty Dingo mounts, and have them all the way forward. I was hoping to be able to use the driveshaft without cutting it, but no dice. The mounts worked out really slick, and just like they said. Leave the mount to frame bolts loose, and the engine will slide forward or backward as needed. My driveway is at a pretty steep angle, so I had to use a ratchet strap to get it to move. I used the CTS-V pan also, and it has a ton of clearance everywhere. Doing my homework paid off.

We are close to record lows. It was colder in 1912, but just barely. 13 here this morning, 11 back in 1912. Don't imagine it felt much different then.

Seriously. The wind was just starting to pick up, so I beat feet in the house. You guys be careful up there (totally sounds like a good idea to stay home. Humans aren't supposed to be out in temps like that!) The engine is a 5.3; I just used the Vortec MAX covers to make it pretty.

I'm safe and warm at my desk at the plant. Big Black made some squeaky noises at -11 this am, but He was fine once I got some heat in him. This afternoon's gonna suck. It's been in the low teens several times already. It got to 43 for about 2 minutes on Saturday, and I was standing in the driveway like an idiot, just sucking up some Vitamin D.

Glad you got it in easy enough. What manifolds you using? The new Thorley headers?

I bought a set of TBSS exhaust manifolds, so I will probably run those. I do plan on checking the fit of the original 2001 Yukon manifolds as well, but I don't plan on running them.

I am doing a 4.8l swap in my 76 and I have the DD mounts. My a/c compressor is in the stock location, but it is really close to the mounts. My set up is almost as far foward as I can get it. Is your p/s pump close to the drivers side frame? I am modifying my trans crossmember now so I can use the factory one stud mounted transmission mount.

It seems like there is plenty of room for the P/S pump. I am using a later model (86-ish) steering box, so the original 2001 P/S hoses fit. There was a bit of wiggling needed get the bolt in place, but that was to get it to clear the P/S line (it hangs down below the pump a bit).

Nothing that you can really see, but I have wires everywhere. It is in the garage, so that is a nice change. Keeps the neighbors happy, too. Having a brown behemoth on jackstands behind my house with the front end covered by a tarp is probably enough to flip some folks in my HOA totally out.

Yeah, me too. My 5 year old spewed all over the urgent care last night. That was, uh, sweet. Hope she gets better soon.

For the wiring, I bought one from www.fuelinjectionconnection.com . The harness I got with the engine was a little rough, so I sprung for a new one. It has been nice clearing parts off of the shelf and getting them put on the truck though.

Nada. I did get to pull the engine again to get rid of the poly inserts that weren't "quite right". Trans cooler is mounted, and I need to pull the driveshaft back out to get it shortened again (in front, since I decided to drag it out and do an LS swap also). Fuel system is done, engine is in place for the last time, and most of the stuff underneath with the exception of the driveshaft is done. We have been busy at work (good), so my core support has been sitting in the corner of my paint shop for a few months (bad). I took over as shop manager 4/1, so I come home beat lately too.
