Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here is my Missouri plate for my 67

Sure many of you have license plates from the year your truck was manufactured but how many have county specific I am from county 34 or Fillmore county Nebraska hence the plate numbers looked off and on at swap meets ebay ect for 4 years then a buddy of mine who is a hired hand for a farmer moved into a rental house of theirs and in the garage on the wall was this he says hey I know you've been lookin for one of these you can have it and it's just a license plate I doubt they'll miss it that much lol

Last month I went into the barber shop in town and saw that the barber had this over the mirror. These were issued by towns here in NC back in the day to show you had paid your city tax on your car (I believe).



When I saw it I told him I needed it for the front of my 72. He said it had taken him 10 years to finally find one of these tags BUT if I found him another one he would trade me because he didn't care what year it was.

So last Saturday I go get my hair cut and he now has 4 tags, all different years...he took down the 1972 tag and handed it to me.

I did take a 1962 license tag back to him just to make things even.

On a different note, the local police stopped me in my truck last week. The officer walked up and I handed him my DL and the current tag and registration card that I carry in the glove box.

He says he ran my tag and it came back to a 2003 GMC and that the tag was revoked and had a pick up order on it (NOT GOOD).

I pointed out that the tag on my truck was from 1972 and had been in my grandfathers garage from 1973 until I got it out of there when he died, in 1986 or so.

So he runs the number again and sure enough, my 1972 tag number had been reissued to someone in 2010 and whoever it was, no longer has insurance and his tag is bad.

The officer was real nice and actually apologized for not noticing my tag was from 1972...I have since put the current tag on the back and am in the market for another '72 tag.

Nice find. I am looking for a "ROCKWELL" one for my rig. A vendor at the Goodguys show told me they exist but I haven't found one yet.

Here's mine, these were the original plates my grandfather put on the truck in 66 when he bought it. They were removed in 68 and stored on a shelf in his garage until a few years ago when he put them back on the truck.

I of course registered them back to the truck once I bought it from my grandmother. (pay no attention to the 80s step bumper and the DeeZee tailgate guard. They are both slated to be replaced/ removed in the near future )

I wouldn't mind finding a set in a little better shape at some point but for now I can deal with the patina.

Thank you! & Yes they are. I have yet to see any YOM plates on other vehicles since I moved here this past summer. I hope to start a movement!

LOL... All I had to do was ask Bhelton. He had no idea we were talking about this yesterday here on the thread but saw one on ebay yesterday and remembered me looking for one at Goodguys last month. He sent me the link yesterday and I grabbed it! The crazy part is I called him to thank him and he had no idea we were discussing it yesterday. It was just coincidence.

I'll watch for a china grove tag for you- watch for a '67 (I think he wants '67) Alabama state tag for Bhelton. We saw some at GG but the vendors wanted $50 so he wisely passed.

Would the 70' plate be the same as yours? Black with white letters?

Prior to my departure from Manitoba, I picked up two sets of YOM plates for my 67s. You can't use them on the road, but I got them for LCF at shows or cruise-in's. The T (for truck) plate is rare because they lived hard lives & are typically beaten to death. The EX plates are car plates. On both, the purple 67 tag made the 64 plates legal for that year.
