Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
One of the more unusual SPIDs I've come across.
I wanted to bump this thread because I have a little project I am working on. I want to build a list of every RPO from every year and how it is typed on the label so people can do a repop of their labels with the correct info.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
That's a pretty ambitious project, since:
a) There are hundreds of RPOs per model year b) They can vary from year to year across the lifecycle of a product, and c) There may be some minor variation between plants and model years on the verbiage used to describe the RPO (up to seven assembly plants for the squarebody vehicles). You may already be underway but my recommendation would be to start with the generic Info Packets at the GM Heritage Center archive and go year by year to create your "master list" of RPOs. That would probably be the most comprehensive way to start. https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html K

I have found that at least one plant used the old style SPID through 1987 while others went to the smaller ones. I've also found 1986 trucks with the smaller labels.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Here's the kind of thing I am thinking of -
We used to get a new book like this every couple years. This will give you an idea of how many RPOs there are. The individual plants were supposed to use the functional names as formatted here but, as you have seen, there can be some plant-to-plant variation. I wish I had one of these to send you but I don't seem to have one from the squarebody era. This one happens to be for 1998. K

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
I'm posting the SPID from the truck I'm fixing up per the request of member Keith Seymore. If you are up to answering a couple of my questions this was the thread. Thanks.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Thank you; mostly wanted an example here of the "almost reverse alphabetical skipping around" arrangement of RPOs. 1986 St Louis truck SPID.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
What do you mean by St. Louis truck? When I go to VIN decoder it tells me the following:
VIN: 1GTGK24M1GS506422 WMI / VDS / VIS: 1GT / GK24M1 / GS506422 Model: C/K 2500 Make (Manufacturer): GMC Model year: 1986 Manufactured in: Detroit, Michigan, United States (North America) Sequential number: 506422 Body style: REGULAR CAB PICKUP 2-DR Driveline: 4WD Trim level: Regular Cab 4WD |

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
Quote:
506422 is the sequential portion of the VIN (starting at 500001) S = St Louis MO final assembly location G = 1986 model year Other potential final assembly locations would be F = Flint Michigan J = Janesville WI P = Pontiac MI V = Pontiac MI 1 = Oshawa Ont etc "Detroit" is a generalization, where GM is perceived to be headquartered. The actual assembly location of your truck was St Louis. K

Thanks for the info Keith. It looks like the online decoder is incorrect.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
The 73 and up labels are a little more work and are priced a little differently than the 67-72 labels. The base price of the 73+ SPID is $45 and includes the clear cover, 20 options and shipping.

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
This is one from a truck I've had my eye on for years; it aint going anywhere soon, it's amongst a hundred or cars ranging from the 30s to 70s. Pretty cool SPID and everything is with the truck except for the seats and console for which I grabbed when I had the chance, of course I paid for them. Seats were just sitting in the truck on the replacement bench seat. Enjoy, Mike

Re: Squarebody SPID Picture Thread
from my '85 custom deluxe K30 crew
just what's needed... only rpo that gets me is the trans code, MM4 as far as i can tell there has never been a clutch in my truck. no shifter holes or anything, i got the big brake pedal.... it's got a t400, and as far as i can tell, looks right orig to me. it was a gov truck orig, so maybe something to do with when buying fleet? Hello Keith, can you shine any light? i do notice it's a merchandised code, but i don't see any other trans rpo's anywhere on my spid |

I figured that by 86 the 3 on the tree and AM radio were on the uncommon side?
