Re: 4x4 LS cross member
If you use the dirty dingo cross member most header don't fit I had to cut and re work the Dough Thorley headers I bought. I tried block hugger type header and had fitment issues as well. or stock manifolds will fit 2.
the main issue is the the headers are made to fit 2 wheel drive truck. the cross member on 2 wheel truck pushes the engine up 1.5" higher than 4 wheel drive. |

Put the holes wherever you want/need for your build.

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
Done ?. I see a couple bolts missing. I wedged mine up to the top of the frame to get it as high as I could to help out with the headers. your installation looks good. Are you using stock manifolds or headers.

Nope they hit on the leaf spring bracket bolts on both sides..they do clear the frame no problem..dont know if i should cut and buy exhaust merge collecters to make them longer or just install a set of 2002 ls1 manifiolds i have those bolt right in no prob.

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
Anyone have an update on the 47-59 v8 swap crossmember into a 67-72 4x4 LS swap? I’m readying my self for the swap for my K20 and stumbled across this thread. Looks like a very cost effective way to approach this. I’m not honestly crazy about the dingo or pacfab setups, as I don’t plan to lift my truck right away, maybe in the future but not now.

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
I'll add my two cents. I used Dirty Dingo mounts for my '70 K10. I have a Dana 44 up front. Overall I like the mounts (the newer ones have holes for front brake lines that run through the frame). I have a 4" lift and have loads of room between the mount cross member and the pumpkin.
But the two major problems I've had: First, I can tell my LS heads are going to be really tight against the firewall even after pushing the engine all the way forward. Second, headers. I sent back the first pair I bought because of fit. I now have mid-length Doug Thorley headers and still had to modify the header slightly on the drivers side to fit inside the frame. An extra inch or two of engine clearance up above the frame would have made all the difference. |

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
I took a chance and used the Jegs cross member that was posted earlier. I had the body off the frame so hopefully it all works but the cross member is in and engine set. I will take some photos. Btw 1971 4x4

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
Cross member in. I am at stock height right now and there is at least 2 inches from cross member to front diff. The bracket hit right at the bumper stops so I had to remove them but I wanted the cross member back some for my low mount AC. Have to mount the compressor yet but there is enough room with the motor mounts back. I used adjust mounts

Re: 4x4 LS cross member
Thanks for the pictures, I think I’m gonna go this route. so is your transmission and transfer case in the stock 67-72 position? I don’t want to move them so I don’t have to modify the driveshafts at all.
