What Urks you when looking at a used 67-72 truck?
I thought I would start a thread so we could put together items we find that have been done to used trucks we may be interested in that make us laugh or make us walk away.
For me its: - Painting the entire engine compartment and all components inside, black!

Forgot to mention... newer bed. I'd rather have no bed.

Hey, the garbage cheap paint job goes right along with the garbage truck.
![]() My pet peeve is this: The ad says "fully restored", but it's missing a lot of the original parts needed. It's not restored, it's resto-mod. |

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
I wouldn't say it "irks" me, but I get a charge out of the $20,000, rare collector truck, "Cheyenne Super!", with rusted out cab corners and rockers, an 80's era steering wheel, aftermarket gauges, and a J.C. Whitney seat cover

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
Liars! I found many things wrong and the owner says something like "That is factory" or "I never had a problem with that."
Having to jump start it when I ask to see it running and then seeing it leaking fuel like the Hoover dam! I actually hooked up a horn wire once just to find when the owner connected the battery the horn did not stop blowing. Plus all of the above; New model beds/wooden beds Big rims Missing pictures of interior Missing pictures of engine bay And the all too famous "It was running fine when I put it away."

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
When a seller thinks that all the money he/she sinks into a vehicle, for parts and labor, makes the vehicle worth that much. Then on the other side there are those that believe it.
A few short years ago, a numbers matchin Muscle Car could be had for around $10k, and good survivor trucks like ours could bring 3-4K, but now prices are insane. |

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
I hate a truck that has been lowered..... Serves no purpose.
Most lowered trucks have ridiculously huge rims. Heresy I say!

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
The flipper that takes one picture of the truck, still on the trailer, fresh from 20 years outside in the back 40........ 'Barn Find!'
The professional flipper (step above guy above) takes a garden hose to the truck and wets her down for some 'shine' in the picture .......... The truck you go to see that you can tell I was a great original until this guy got it, took it all apart, stripped all the paint off and threw away the stuff he wasn't going to use....... I do agree things are getting overpriced, but to ask some extra to get back what you put in, money and labor wise, is not out of order. |

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
OH CRY ME A RIVER ! None of them are over priced if they are restored correctly , If you can only afford junk ...Well that's what you'll get ...JUNK . Just because you can't afford to pay for it doesn't mean it's over priced ,It means you want more than your wallet can afford . They are 50 years old you want them cheap ? You better be able to build one yourself or break out your wallet ! I'm so sick of hearing OH they cost to much ! Well You buy everything to rebuild one or a dozen and see what they really cost. Go buy a Kia and quit complaining ! ...

![]() ![]() ![]() I was followed home from Walmart one day. The guy said he followed me cause he wanted to know if I would sell my truck. I explained that it wasn’t for sale, but everything has a price. I started showing him the work i had done. I pooped the hood and showed him my LS swap. I did a clean job. The guy looked at me and said “oh, I thought maybe it had a 6 in it”. Then he said “well, I’d have you take all this out”. I laughed at him and closed the hood. It’s not for sale. The guy was a cheap ass and wanted something for free. This is not a cheap hobby. It cost money. What someone wants for their truck shouldn’t irk you. Go find one you like and can afford and buy it! It’s that simple. If you don’t like the truck or what they want, guess what? You don’t have to buy it. This whole thread is rediculous. This is community aimed at helping one another and were in here whining like a bunch kids. |

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
That's not going to happen. That's not how it works. You spend $20,000 on a resto to sell it for $15,000. You're not getting paid for your time. It's a labor of love.

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
1) Not everyone wants to build one themselves
2) Not everyone can 3) If you want it right now ...Pay up ! 4) Keep thinking there is an unlimited supply of trucks and good parts ... ![]() |

Re: What Urks you when looking at a used truck?
I actually had this one happen to me.
Inquire about an original 'survivor' with 'full documentation'. Look at dozens of pictures showing pretty much everything, talk to the seller and arrange to travel 200 miles to look at it. Truck looks and runs fine BUT the seller has only the current title, a couple old registrations, and receipts for an engine rebuild that he had done. No Protecto-plate or any other service records. I explained how important they were but the seller would not negotiate price at all. I was not happy and wasted a long day.
