It's not a single hole/slot. The center section is painted black.

Correct, lost65 .. Factorystock would be proud. All GMC's started life that way.
If this is a factory assembled truck, it's clearly special order unit with all the variance it shows. You gotta like a factory oddball!

No. Anybody could order different front vs rear vs spare tires.

That's why the tire options are structured as "Xxx", "Yxx" and "Zxx" where:
X = front
Y = rear
Z = spare

If that is in fact the Oshawa assembly plant then it had been producing vehicles since the early 1900's.

The photo could be immediately after model change, or showing the two short repair lines that occur after the end of final/roll test. If that is the case then either the drivers haven't shunted any vehicles over to that side, or they are only working one line due to production volume (after hours or Saturday repairs).

They could be smiling because it's "time and a half" for overtime ("double time" for Sundays).

- Or - they could just be "clean and neat", like this photo of the Fremont body drop.

If this was Flint there would be all kinds of vehicle bodies, dunnage, support vehicles (forklifts and electric scooters) and junk stacked in the aisleway.

Sorry to dig up an ancient post -- big GM T&C fan, and stumbled across this image on Pinterest, of all things. Noticed there was some confusion as to the location -- one attempt to pin it down said Pontiac, but placed it in the loop.

My dad worked in Truck & Coach Engineering for over 20 years, so I know this building well. This is the Truck Engineering building off South Boulevard, just east of the intersection with MLK Jr Blvd. That forward building is long gone, but some of the back buildings, located along what's labeled as "Ring Road" on Google Maps, are still standing.

GM completely vacated these grounds shortly before or after the bankruptcy proceedings. Outside of the scope of this group, perhaps, but this was one of the last shots I took before vehicles were moved out of the back lot. The rail spur behind that lot, which was still known to CN as "Yellow Cab" as a historical touch, was pulled up shortly afterward.

Welcome aboard -

We left the Truck Product Center in about 2005 (the crash was in 2008); the motivation was that all General Motors engineering should be consolidated at the GM Tech Center in Warren. It added about an hour every day to my commute.

The tragedy (in my mind) was that the Validation Center, at the corner of Woodward and South Blvd (now the "M-1 Concours") was only about 10 years old when it was vacated and demolished. The replacement facility on 12 Mile Rd could not hold a candle to the Validation Center in terms of resources and size.

So if I understand you correctly: this would be looking west along South Blvd? The closest traffic light would be the drive back to Bldg 32 (and the far light in the distance would be MLK Blvd)?

In that last pic it looks like the driver is driving his truck thru a pickit line for some sort of strike.
Looks like the person in front of the truck is getting knocked down.

Yes, I didn't caption the pic. The Facebook post said it was a Vietnam war protest I think.
