Re: Project '86

No tach, I could have gotten a matching 5" tach for another $150 but I was already stretching the budget.

I don't plan on building a console but who knows what may happen when I get further along on the interior.

Re: Project '86

Alright guys I need some help, I bought this windshield gasket from Brothers

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=W387STD

I have no idea how this thing goes!

Let's call this the top

This is the right side and it has two channels

This is the left side and has one large channel

This is the bottom

Anybody know how this works? Every way I turned it looked wrong.

Re: Project '86

I would assume that the large channel is for the glass, one small channel should fit the metal around the window frame...and the other small channel I would think would be for a trim piece. I know you can purchase them w/ and w/o trim??? Hope this helps?

Re: Project '86

actually i was wrong the big opening is where the pinch weld window frame goes (goes towards the cab)...the 2 small should face the front of the truck, one is for glass and one for a trim piece.

Re: Project '86

The glass should fit in the middle groove with the larger channel going towards the truck to sit on the metal..and then a trim piece inserted on the outer groove. then you lay it in the frame.

Man, you have done way too much cool mods to even begin to comment on. You know, its maybe possible that they sent you the wrong gasket. Stuff happens in warehouse situations. I'd look at my gasket set if it weren't still boxed up and packed away.

Re: Project '86

I just put a windshield in my truck with a new gasket. I ordered one with the black trim. What I ended up getting was a gasket and a locking strip. Before I put it in I was confused on how the locking strip was going to work. There was only a groove on one side for the locking strip. After the gasket was installed in the truck it became clear to me The locking strip was built onto the gasket and all I had to do was insert one side to lock it in. It was kind of tedious but it went in and tightened everything up nice. So I got the locking strip for nothing.

This is the only picture I have to help describe it.

Re: Project '86

That pic helps, I think I see how it works now.

I was hoping to be able to put the gasket on the truck and use that to mark the glass where it needed to be cut but it doesn't look like I will be able to do that.

I don't think that it will work with a new gasket either. Mine was tight and didn't really go into place until the last step of the locking strip. Maybe a used gasket with a removable locking strip that has memory of being installed might be better to get the glass fit. Or possibly another truck with no glass at all could be used to set your glass in to get a visual of how it would sit with no gasket then set yours in the same and mark your cuts.

With what you have fabricated already, I don't see this stumping you for long.
