Re: Who here actually has one of these trucks?

I have a late 99, 2000 body style 2wd swb with the 4.8 auto. The truck has trouble starting when it is warm. If it has sat for a while and is completely cold, it will fire right up, but if I run in the store, go to dinner, whatever for a short period of time, it will crank for a couple of five seconds or so and then fire up. The truck has about 140xxx miles on it. When I purchased it at 125xxx, I replaced the fuel pump because it gave me this exact same problem, Had no problems until about 2000 miles back. I found out there was a recall on the fuel pump pigtail, and replaced the pigtail and and warrentied out the fuel pump. For a couple days, it worked fine, always fired right up, but since then it is back to its old ways. Runs great, but just doesn't fire up right away. Its kinda embarassing because my fiance comes from a multimillion dollar family, and my truck sound like a piece of ****. I thought maybe the fuel pressure regulator, but they don't make them aftermarket yet. Any suggestions?

Re: Who here actually has one of these trucks?

2001 HD that I bought brand new. 8.1 liters of gas and oil eating muscle. Somewhat rare 6 speed manual, bucket seats and manual shift transfercase. I am not a big fan of the push button electric shift 4wd crap. Bought it new on the first wave of cheap interest after 9-11. She is now paid off with only has 44k miles and still looks and drives like brand new.

Try pulling the regulator vacuum line off, then turn on the key n see if gas leaks out, that is ussually where they leak when going out. You notice your mpg go down lately at all? Also might try some injector cleaner incase ya got one sticking.

I had the exact same problem and it was the regulator. As suggested, simply pull the vacuum line off and if gas drips out, that is your problem. If it's bad, gas is being sucked passed the regulator flooding your engine. I bought a replacement at the auto part store and took about 5 minutes to install.

Hey JT,
Hope your Christmas was great.
The Cab I bought from you is now in the process of recieving a 4" haircut.
The frame is the basis of the new ProStreet frame, and the suspensions are getting put to good use maybe 1 will make it under the front of my new project 1951 F1 original flathead V8 3 on the tree I know it's not a CHEVY but the price was right$500.

By the way my 05 Duramax Turbo Diesel is the best damn truck I ever owned I will be starting the Biodiesel manufacturing deal soon with an old employer/best buddy of mine after the holidays we should be able to produce 120 gallons of pure Biodiesel a day for our use and for sale locally.

Re: Who here actually has one of these trucks?

Dennis, That sounds great man. Glad you got some use out of those parts, i would have hated to take any of it to scrap. Sounds like you have your hands full with projects right now. Dont forget to send me some pics. Hopefully in a few years i will pick up another 67-72 project truck but for now I am content with my Camaro and New truck. i will probably get a magnaflow catback, and K&N FIPK for it along with some Nice wheels then leave it alone. (Yeah right, like anyone who belongs to this site could ever leave anything completely stock)

I'm still pretty new here, read all the time but don't post much. I got one, too!

Clean.

Dirty! Much better.

Pictures were too dang big to post, sorry.

Seriously considering letting it go and picking up a newer Silverado SS. Drove one a few weeks ago and fell in love. Failing that I'm looking for an Avalanche.

I used to really despise the avalanche until they started selling them without all of the plastic on the bottom. That's a really nice looking ride.
