Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Honestly, I think it is a lot less work than swapping a frame under your body. And it would be even less work if you didn't care about filling in all the holes and e-brake mount holes.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
If you're jokin' on that ground strap, don't ask about my 0/3 running from the battery to block on my burb.
A few questions though: I'm doing almost this same thing to my 68 K20 Burb(my parts truck is a 91 dodge 3/4 4x4 5 speed NP205 D60/D70) and was wondering if the dodge front axle mounts lined up or if you had to "finesse" the springs to bolt it up? And also what size fuel lines will you be using? Subscribing for when I do my cummins swap.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Thanks.
Well after I finish the 04 ford I'm doing, I'll get this back in the shop. I think I'm going to set the engine farther back in the frame, and redo my RH side of my engine crossmember to allow for more clearance on the differential housing. Another thing I forgot, on my cowl hood. Once I actually bolted hinges on this truck, the back of the scoop did hit. So I will have to trim it when I fix the front portion of it that cracked from snow and water getting in it and cracking the bond this winter.

No more progress, but here's the newest piece for the truck. I will say, it looks nicer in person than in the catalogs.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Here in a month or so, I'm thinking of building some engine crossmembers and engine mounts for a 12v cummins in 67-72 4x4's, 2x4's, and 73-91 4x4's and 2x4's. We'll see. I'm thinking of upgrading vendor status and selling them if it all works out.

sounds like a money maker! You certainly seem to have the experience. Maybe I'll find a 12v somewhere and drop that in my GMC, using one of your custom pieces.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Well I purchased some new to me mirrors for the truck last week and they came in the other day. I went out and put them on so they won't get lost.
The more I look at this truck, the more I think it needs atleast 33's.

My only fear is, I don't want to get this truck too high because then I won't be able to tow my goose neck trailer.

I will be using minimum of 3/8" for fuel supply and 5/16" for return. I might end up installing an Air Dog 150 on this truck by the time its all said and done. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
you could use airbags instead of leafsprings in the rear for the gooseneck , it would allso help resist the rear squatting once the trailer is loaded and you can lift the rear as high as you like it when you dont pull the trailer , on the dually scene they use them a lot and pulling two car trailers mostly slam RE 4's
you dont realy need tanks and stuff just a pump and some valves when you only raise and lower them when standing still

Morrors look good. That is the same style that I have. Very functional, but not obnoxious/in-the-way/blind spots.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I might leave it where it is depending on how much clearance I gain after I redo, modify, my engine cross member. If I can't get enough clearance I will have to raise the engine up a little bit. We'll have to see.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
OK, today Mathew and I were loading scrap, and I decided the old hood on the Longhorn was going bye bye. So when we came back we installed my new hood. It fits pretty well. I am still going to have to fine tune it, but it is pretty good considering the rest of the truck.
It looks like I will be removing the engine from this truck now too. My brother needs to get his truck off the ground, out of the weeds, and from a million pieces to a few. So I'm giving his engine back so he has no, "But you have my engine!", excuses. I will put in a 96 12v once I redo my engine cross member. The more I look at it, the more it irritates me.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
youre brother could put the truck together untill it NEEDS the engine put in , that at least gives you one running vehicle most of the time
