Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Dinos63,
Thanks for the compliment. Its been a lot of work and I cant waite to get started restoring my 56 Chevy Short Step Bigwindow. Thats going to be my truck, I just hope my Son remembers all the work I have done on his when its time to help me. He's up to his butt in College so I guess I cant expect to much. JRBECK64 |

Nice oak, did you order the kit or mill it all yourself?

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
BreathnFumes,
I ordered the kit from Mar-K in Oklahoma. I am really impressed with the quality of the wood and the workmanship of their product. I think when its time to do my truck (56 Chevy Bigwindow Short Step) I will be ordering another one. JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
Is that truck you have a Quad Cab? I sure would like to see that. Did you manufacture it from a Suburban or did you splice together two cabs? Either way it is a cool looking truck. Do you have some larger pics of it??

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
We worked all day Sunday and finished installing the Bed. That is a lot of bolts and nuts and some of them are real fun to get to behind mufflers, but we got it done. Now its the dreaded cut and buff time. I have to say that is almost worth the money to go have someone else do it but my budget says I am going to do it. Here are a few pictures of the completed bed.

Thanks,
Who did you get your weatherstripping from? Did you have any door issues not closing correctly because of the strip thickness. I saw somewhere on this board a guy had bought some and it was so thick the doors wouldn't close all the way. Philip |

I bought my door seals from a place called Golden Eagle Classic Parts here in Portland. I had and am still having issues with the doors, that is why my front fenders are setting on the bench while the door rubbers hopefully compress a bit. I need to do some fine adjusting on the doors as they are sticking out a bit at the bottom over the Rocker Panels, moreso on the Drivers side than the Passenger side. This has been one of the more difficult door adjustments I have ever dealt with. These are some of the tightest doors I have seen as far as getting them to shut right but they have been setting for about 2 weeks now and they are still fairly tight when you go to shut them. I still need to pull the striker plates in a bit once the rubbers compress a little so the door looks completely closed in the back. I have even though about taking the doors off and shimming them out a bit. Patients is a big part of dealing with stubborn doors and I am not that patient. Good thing my Son is. JRBECK64 |

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide
The name of the bed liner is Hippo. It actually takes longer to mask than it does to apply it. If I could give you a little advise if you decide to do one is to make sure you pull the paper off as soon as your done spraying. It tends to want to stick to the paper and create strings off the paper rather than coming off with a clean edge. Also make sure you buy some WIRE TAPE to mask the edges with, Its expensive but its worth it.
