Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
Thanks Captainfab !!
I used saran wrap plastic wrap tacked to the wood with staples first, the glass will not stick to the plastic wrap, then the cotton material and then the resin and fiberglass mat, three layers of mat, I did two layers and then knocked it to shape woth 36 grit om my DA, then the last layer laid out smooth, I used blocks between the two plywood pieces.. loose not screwed down, I screwed 4 screws into just the two pieces of plywood so the parts would seperate after everything was dried and so I could get to the screws and not hit them with the jig saw, then used a template I made to cut the hole for the fan from the top side, I trimmed it while in the form and it popped right out, If I had it to do again..I would leave it on the form a little longer because it pulled in , along the middle of the wide edges, but I am not going to make another one, I used those threaded inserts 10/32 used for furnitiure to mount the fan to the ring of plywood, I guess I could have used aluminum and glassed it into the part but..I think the wood will be ok |

Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
Thanks for the rundown. I was thinking of something like saran wrap. So did you use something like an old t-shirt to get the basic shape?

The shroud came out great. What CFM is the fan rated?

Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
I don't know off hand but its a big Hayden...paid allot for it about 12 years ago and it cooled the TPI with the stock radiator without a shroud for all these years, I will check the CFM its on the side of the fan...I was just looking at it the other day

Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
Took a few hours of work but...I figured out a good way to mount the new radiator to the 62, the 62 does not have a radiator mounting x member like the 63-66 have so I got a bit creative, made some brackets and used some rubber isolators from a jap car in the junk yard, I am pretty sure it was a 90s Nissan Maxima, then made some plates and riveted them to the radiator, still need to mount the top but I think I will use one center mount to teh hood latch striker plate bolts, top hose is going to work which was a 1992 GTA trans am...lower is stock 62 but will not work...off to the parts house with my exhaust preheater hose bent to fit and see if I can find anything that will work, if not I will get some stainless mandrel bent tubing and tig them together to form the bends and use two short hoses on each end

The cab corners came from another truck, I just cut my roof till I hit good metal and cut the patches to fit, If there is anything else I can help you with let me know

Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
I waited the whole day for the rain to stop...at 4 pm it stopped and I was able to jack up the 62 and remove the RH wheel and all the brakes, I cleaned up all the parts and got it ready to go back together with new slave and shoes....and the rain started again...better luck tomorrow

Re: My 1962 C10 Build Thread "Grandpa's Truck "
Got allot done the last few days, its fired up again after relocating the EFI pump under the cab from under the hood, re did allot of the engine wiring and got the dash and gauges back in and working, radiator is in for good and all hoses are installed and full of water/coolant, steering column is in for now...getting a different one soon ...so this one will get trashed...its worn out
Got the last parts of the dash painted today and its back together I decided to go with Hot Rod Flatz paint so the 800$ of the factory green is just going to sit here...I should have thought that one out a bit before dropping the $$...oh well |
