Re: Random pictures you took of your K
Had to make the pilgrimage back to the Garage of it's birth to get some upgrades done.
Camped in the truck for the first time this year in his driveway. By the time we finished we put in new front springs, new steering gear, welded in frame plate at the steering gear, fresh rear shocks and ORD brackets, fresh OEM fender and repair to the cowl. It's amazing how much better it drives.

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
Beautiful truck. Nothing better than a ride on some single track. I'm guessing that's what you ride based on the bike. We have a great trail network here in MI and I really need to get back to riding more than I have the last couple years.
Wife and I are preparing for a home reno so in preparation of that I've had to move some stuff. Stumbled upon an external hard drive I dumped all of my electronic pics on back around 2009 and found some pics I knew were somewhere but had forgotten where. This K20 was a '77 I purchased around 2005. 400 sbc, th350, NP203. I used this truck as my tow rig for the '72 K5 in my avatar to go to the dunes for about 3 years. '72 had no top and it was raining so we took the tow rig to the dunes. I sold it around 2010 if I remember right. Kept the tires and rims though...still have them connected to some 3/4 ton axles taking up space for the last 10 years. Thought about using the rims on my '17 2500 Silverado. They came off of a '99 2500 Suburban I had in the early 2000's. Gotta find a pic of that now... |

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
Finished my new onboard air system installation.
Works way better than the old Smittybilt compressor I had. It took 3 minutes or less to fill the 3gal tank on board and charge it to the 150psi shut off point. The old smitty never hit the 125 psi cut off point on the switch I used. Got a couple of small projects to knock out this weekend and a week to load out before Desert trip 2022.

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
The heavy lifting is mostly done for the truck. Refining things now for sure. Looking for a Warn 8274 winch for nothing more than a project to cleanup and refurbish and have the old-school look. I plan on ordering one of the winch bumpers from Engineered Vintage when they come out to complete the look. They look like a better version of the old Warn winch bumper in a box they used to sell. Most likely way stronger too. I do have some Bushwacker cutout flares inbound to address my issue with the tires and the fenders fighting for the same space off road. I will not lift it any higher to gain clearance so cutting is the way to go. The flares will work to make the cuts clean and covered up.
The rear bumper will get a new can rack on a swing-out like the tire carrier. Then providing I've cleared room in the garage I can get into the improvements to the camper. It's really in need of the canvas to be replaced and I really need to reskin the exterior. The beer-can thick exterior has had holes poked in it from rowdy trees when off-road. Not sure what I'm going to use but it will be much more resiliant that what was originally installed. Other than that the plan is to use it a LOT this summer. I leave for the desert trip with Larry Sunday. A week off road in nowhere Utah. Back to work for a week and then a weekend gig with my sister and her husband in Winter Park to help them with an arts/craft show. Probably a couple of mountain runs in later July/August and then back to Utah in September for Blazer Bash in Moab. I know some guys love the build process, and I do too. But I like using it a whole lot more.

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
I like the Suburban. Ever think about getting a sign shop to make you a fire logo? something whimsical like "Fire Dog".
Yours is like mine being a single headlight with the side/bumper trim and no roof rack

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
Thanks Tim. Should I leave the stripes or peel them off?

Re: Random pictures you took of your K
I was thinking add in a tastefully done mock fire badge/logo/shield. My stripes and such were pulled. You can see where everything was including Cobb County Sheriff on the sides, and Sheriff on the tailgate.
