Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

that truck is LOW if you would be able to pull the wheels up off the ground you prolly could change a tire without a jack the wheels are on garagerollers and its still laying rockers when aired out , prolly be a little less when the inner fenders go in there again though

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

its realy hard to weld cast aluminium aspecially if its used coroded and soaked in oil you just never be able to clean it so mush that there whont be stuff oozing out of the casting and contaminating the weldbead , it might work but i think he be having leaks and cracks after only a little use with the heatcycles vibrations and other stuff that happens on the road
come to think of it you might have more luck using epoxi and gleu the plate on

you are right about the oil oozing out of the casting. that can be helped with a few warm ups with the oxy/acetylene rig. otherwise cast aluminum will weld just like sheet stock or an extrusion. but even as a used oil pan, it wont be to difficult to weld after a little clean up. if the outside is overly corroded, it would need to be sanded down till its clean regardless.

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

nice...... looks like the idea is working , now to find an old corvette doghouse style injection manifold

if you try that it might be eazier to have sumtin made that only looks like it and hollow on a 3D printer so you can trim the bottom edge and stick it over the original manifold with some stuck on bolts or epoxy or sumtin like that you could hide a ton of modern stuff under there

Saw the first pic and got excited about your custom LSx V-12. That is a really cool use of the old valve covers; very clean way to hide the coil packs. And I love that old GMC stamping. Too cool Mike!
