Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

We finally got power back in the shop. No power in the house.I hope it lasts. We had power in the house for about 5 hours and then we heard a transformer pop. There doesn't seem to be alot of service trucks out yet but I am sure they are busy. Its pouring down rain again. The whole place around here is a mess. No store are open or gas. maybe they will open today

We have coffee on at the shop if anyone is close to I45 and El dorado Blvd. They are moving in large tractor trailer size generators at the old Bay Area Ford dealership. Loooks like a staging area caosue there is like 20 of them and i see some on the Hwy to.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

well 30 min after my last post a tree fell and hit the house. We lost power between 2 and 2:30 and it is still out. We have alot of limbs all over the yard, 2 trees up rooted (one of them hit the house), and some shingels (spelling?) missing. After the tree fell I went out to see what the loud bang was and took a picture. After the eye and the winds changed directions it was picked back up and moved to the fence and the corner of the house. The people who saw the tree where it landed befor couldnt believe where it was after it was all over. We are staying in Santa Fe right now becouse they have their power back on at my mother-in-law's house. 24 hrs running off of an electric radiator fan, leds, and 12v tv I couldnt take another night.

WOW your lucky. They reported on the news that most injuries from a Hurricane are afterwards. At least you have a place to go. I am sleeping at the shop in Webster cause I am tired of hearing the generators running and can't sleep. If you need anything give us a holler

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

I'm still here. No major damage, just limbs and fences down at my house. Power has been out since 12:00 Friday night. Hopefully we will get electricity soon. God bless to all the other texans affected by this storm.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

I just got off the phone with him. Everyone is safe and they lost alot of trees. He was told that it was going to be around 30 days to get power and their water is turned off. He said that his mother-in-laws house had power for a little bit today and if it comes back on they were going to stay over there.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

I'm going to start cleaning up today. No water here, they say 2-4 weeks before power(lets hope that's an over-estimate). The weather has cooled off a bunch so we just take cold showers at moms and sleep here by moonlight. If everyone else would turn off their generators at night it would pretty peaceful.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

My sister's place was spared in Houston, but the house next door, had a tree come down and take out the gas meter, spewing gas and 3-5 days before the gas co will be out to shut it down, hope it doesn't blow as it could take out 3 or 4 houses in a circle around it!? They headed to San Antonio to get AC (no power either!). All seemed well with her and the folks around her mostly, hope everyone else faired well? If not, we are praying for you.

Still waiting for power. Got water last night. They say Oct. 5 before everyone in my area has power, lets hope it doesn't take that long.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

Mike if it's any consolation, I have seen large convoys of trucks from all over the country pouring in town the past few days. Certain areas might take a while, but they are hard at it.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

Our power came back on today. My brother-in-law got his power back on Monday and it was shut back off today. So if you do get it back it might not be for long aparently. Still downed lines in my back yard.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

We made it through with little damage. No loss of life in Alvin, Texas.
If you have been over to Street Cruizin' you might remember that I have been building a small shop for the last TWO years, and it is almost finished. A huge tree in my backyard neighbor's property broke off about 10 feet up and crashed into the corner of the shop! Guess I built it strong enough because all I see are some loose shingles and flashing. Doors open and close properly, and it is dry inside. The tree is balanced on the shop roof and 4 or 5 limbs are embedded in my back yard. I can't cut any more of it or it will fall more. The neighbor will have to get it removed.
Still without power, but we never lost water nor natural gas for the stove, so we are good. We always have a good stock on non-perishables in the storeroom.
Back to work tonight, first chance to be on the net since Friday night.

Re: Texas Prepares for Ike (merged)

Well that storm sucked. We were lucky. Minor roof damage to garage. My neighbors 80 year old live oak fell on the roof of the garage with my truck inside. I took the newly purchased 72 burb to work. Glad I did as I needed the extra height of the 3/4 ton to get through the roads immediately after the storm. 3" hole on my house roof with some cieling damage in the bathroom. Over all we were very lucky. Our neighborhood looks like a war zone though with all the century live oaks and other trees down all over. I must say that this little iPhone has impressed me during the storm I always had bars and Internet acces. I just didn't have time to respond to anything. Still now electricity at the house. We are staying with the in laws in cypress for now. Hope everyone else is doing well.
