Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

Hello,
My Son and I got a little side tracked with some wood floors and Holidays and Travel and So on and So Forth. Im still not done with the truck but its much closer to being done. I finished the Initial buff yesterday and will do the final buff this weekend. I will post some pictures this weekend. When that is done I still need to put the side mirrors, bumper and Tail gait in. Then its off to get it Registered. Then I am going to start a double resto 67 shortwide and a 69 long fleet. There is minimal bodywork to do so I am hoping for both trucks to be ready for paint by early spring. Notice I said Hope.

The frame is done and I am going to take the cab and front clip off a 67 long fleet I have and put it on the 69 frame. Now I have to find a short fleet box for a 67 because I like them better. I think I am going to put all the peices I have bought to restore the Short Step box on it and prime it then try to sell it. At the same time I am going to take all the peices from the 69 and make it into a long fleet using the 67 frame. Its going to be a bunch of swapping and I want to paint the 67 black on the bottom, dark purple window level up and have a silver stripe down the side with the opposite color pin stripes on each side of the silver strip so it would be purple on the black side and black on the purple side. I would like to do a rendition of it on paint or some program like that. I have seen your Ideas of paint on your trucks but I am not sure how to do it. Better with actual painting than the drawing part. Anyway what you up to?

Torch Red has really grown on me. I think I like it better than Guards Red because it doesn't have as much orange in it. I dont like the price though. By time I got done with painting my Sons truck I had almost $2500 in the paint job. But that includes filler, high build primer, sealer, paint and clear coat. I look forward to seeing your trucks progress.

Its never to early to get your Son involved working on these kinds of projects. The hard part when they are young is to try to make it fun because an 8 year old can get distracted pretty easy. Plus the work can be very physical when it comes to the bodywork. Thanks for the Compliment and good luck with your Son.

If you can get your truck painted for $4500 that is a pretty decent price exspecially if he is going to color sand and buff it. I can tell you that buffing is a pain in the backside and if you screw up just a little you might end up having to repaint something. I have been a nervous reck buffing out my Sons truck and I still need to do the Final Buff with the foam pad. Good Luck with your project.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

Got most of the final Buff done just need to do the top and the side of the Bed on the Passenger side. That buffing is a lot of work. We put the Tailgate on and that was a PAIN IN THE A__. Got it on and need to do a bit of touch up but thats just how it goes. Put one of the emblems on and it was kind of fun as well with the Air Duct and all in the way. Well it looks like tomorrow for doing the finishing touches like the bumper and the side view mirrors. I think I am going to buy the moldings that go down the side of the truck because it looks like there is to much red. Here is the updated pics as requested. Sorry its taken so long, just got really busy during the Holiday Season.

Classicparts.com has your firewall grommets and American Autowire has any wiring harness you might need included full modification or original.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

All but putting the windshield wipers on and the shoulder harness seat belts and its done!!!! FINALLY!!!! Now on to the next two projects. I am going to restore a 69 Long Fleet and a 67 Short wide next at the same time. I hope my Boys are ready for some long days and possibly nights. I plan on having them done by early summer. Thanks for all those that helped me through the good and the bad of this Resto.
