Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Aw, man, that's awesome! Thanks so much. You shoulda jigged and patterned, you could run a pretty strong hustle just off the dudes on this site. I oughta see what it takes to make this part a sticky.

Nope, Wes, haven't touched a thing, just lots of prep and study. I cannot stand half-done stuff, so I really wanna have it together before I take the leap. Comes a point, though, you just gotta cover your chomes and jump.

On the lazy incompetent end of things, Fixed 2 MX bikes, and I parted a truck all weekend, and have a fish on the line (I hope) for the motor in Yeller. I'd like to yank it and have it all bang bang gone at one whack if I can. Now that Vic (as usual) has done killer work in a timely fashion, the onus is upon me to get poppin. I'm tempted to clean and paint it and only drop it in once. We'll see. I was lookin at David Neal's truck and his motor looked good in all yellow-Decisions, decisions.

I did, however, strip everything fuel system related out of the truck I parted, including the pump, carbon can, all QD tubing and lines, fuel pump harness, etc. I'm hoping to have my harness back by the Fourth, as I'm off all week.

I have to procure and swap in a trans for the OTHER truck I bought soon, so I think once that's tacked down, we be good to go!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Remember when I said something about covering your chomes and jumping? Well, here we go.

Last week, Boppa suggested that we try to list his motor/trans on craigslist and sell it, rather than trip over it til we had time to part it and swap meet it. Lo and behold, I sold it (with full disclosure) to a very nice guy who's gonna ring and bearing it and put it in the '55 big window he's building. So now, we had to yank the motor after work on Fri. After a couple of Exxon Valdez level trans plug popouts, it's out and gone. So hopefully I'll get the pan buttoned up after more great work by Vic on the pickup tube, which is in my possession. Time to nut up or shut up.

Good idea getting it gone. I originally found the low spots in my garage floor by way of massive oil dumps from a similar operation. I now know exactly where to put floor dry and use the squeegee.

Yeah, my garage floor is garbage. The rebar was set too high, and it rusted and shattered the floor. I did a quickie repair on it when we moved in, but that's all coming apart after 8 years. Plus, it has a ton of slope in it. It's like a skate bowl! I need a shop. Come onnnn Powerball!

Not yet, I had thought I might be using my frame if it didn't sell too, but it looks like it is going to be sold to a guy in Las Vagas.

Great Job!
Pulled the hood right before the yank, when I had more hands. I think I'm real close to that. Started at 5:24 (sent a buddy a text before I plugged the phone into the stereo and got crackin') Had everything ready by 6:45 when I went and got Neighbor Jay. Would have gone pretty quick, but I forgot to pull the crank pulley, and we had 3 pop outs of the trans plug. Done and on the ground 715-730. Thank God for air tools! The kicker was the hour and a half of cleanup after I went and got the swamp mess scooped off the pool cover until it got too dark to see. (Oy Gevalt! What a stank!) Wasn't too bad.

Yes I'm definitely happy I was able to sell pretty much everything. I'm surprised and I also had some help from my neighbor .

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Been a while since I checked your engine swap thread...Wow! I'm jealous I didn't think of the oil pan modification. Very clever and super clean work on it and the pickup tube. That's right up my alley too. My pan hangs below the crossmember about an inch maybe 1.5 inch. I guess I better watch out for speed bumps when I start driving her.
Keep up the progress....

Oh, yeah, the 2009 g8 GT exhaust Manifolds showed up Friday. Hollander sez: same as 2010-up Camaro. Another piece of the puzzle.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

We got the inner fenders removed and a bunch of unnecessary wiring removed, discussed some fuel options, and- hey-finally- I got an email that the harness is on its way back. Better be the nicest harness I ever laid eyes on at this point. Enough said.

So, I got busy and got the engine cleaned and painted last night. Grey and yellow, came out pretty nice. You bet there's pic's!

Hopefully, good things a comin'!
