Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Don't forget to check clearance from your bell housing as well. I had to trim a bit of my bell where the starter bolts up. Scorpion LS shorties SP16-5077CC.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Use a mechanically locking nut instead of the nylock, problem solved. They are very slightly ovaled so that they don’t back off

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I'm wondering if you can rotate the mount so the clamshell is more towards the bottom of it?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
You could put the bolt in from the other way or just use an all steel lock nut. Fantenal calls them top loc nuts.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Boom. Found em. Distorted thread locknut.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dist...thread_locknut And I also found the Fastenal brand top lock nut. I will get one of these and replace the nylock nut. I've used these before now that I'm setting them... And as for putting the bolt in the other way that is out of the question as the adapter plates are right up next to the block and these bolts come from the backside so can't switch them like that. I should be able to clearance a small amount of that clamshell top plate and use the top lock nut. Thanks guys, I will report back here and on my build thread when I get this completed.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
These headers fit great. I had to slide the engine back an inch for them to clear the frame but they fit great everywhere else.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Which ones are you using? The long tubes, mid length or the shorties?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Im using the long tubes with 1 7/8 primarys. They fit better than the old longtubes that were on the 283 when I got the truck. I will try to get a picture under neath to show how far they hang down.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Here is what I ended up clearancing. Now you can see that nylock nut underneath and why I was worried about the heat melting it. But I still plan to get one of those all metal Top Lock Nuts.
I think this is going to work just fine .

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Can anyone say how much louder these headers are vs. manifolds? I've got LTs on my other car and they kind of drone, which is cool at first but not so much on longer trips.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Was looking through here and didtnt see my exact combonation of a 71 with a 5.3, speed engineering shorties, CPP mounts and clamshells. I have the multi position dirty dingo plates, not the sliders. Anybody with this combo ?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I think I am getting a set of the 1 7/8. Seems they could put a v band on the collector and it probably could solve a lot of shipping issues and make us all happier. They are cheap enough to add a few bucks to the price for the peace of mind. I've got the f body setup with a T56. It's all in mock up right now. Anyone running this setup yet?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I'm using them on my K10 swap which is currently in process. I bought the shortie version (25-1021) because I have a 4WD crossmember to contend with. These will give me more room to work my exhaust around/through. I also decided to send them out for ceramic coating.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
The spark plug clearance looks pretty good on the drivers side. How about the passenger side?

Any chance anyone has used the 1 7/8" long tubes with a No Limit rack and pinion?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
My Vortec 5.3 is on a run stand and has 2001 Camaro LS1 manifolds. They hug the block nicely.
I intend to keep a manual tranny and from the looks of things these manifolds will interfere with a hydraulic clutch slave. So I want to know if maybe these Speed Engineering headers will give me more room. I know they will fit nicely between the frame rails of my 65 C10. Anyone willing to make a few measurements?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I have the long tubes and there’s no clearance for a Novak external slave.
Not a great pic, but it kind of shows the lack of room.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Thanks. I’m thinking the shorty headers turn down sooner but that’s the clearance info I need. I’m sure others have mated Tremec trannies. I just need to see their setup. I don’t think a Novak setup will work for me either.
