Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Carboncrew!
Love the rig! You inspired me so much I went and got a set of those seats!
Turns out its even from the same guy, he does the local swap meet circuits, and I got them at a good deal. Just picked them up today.

I can't tell from the pic, did you build the whole seat mount?
I'm putting these in the front of my suburban, and I was thing about installing them as a bench on top of the existing (stock) mount and slider. Seems like you did something similar but I'm not sure.

Oh, or am I looking at both the front and REAR seat mounts?

Last question: What brand/color grey did you use on the interior trim (to match the seats)?

Thanks!
Nick

Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Wow, I just realized that I asked this same question in a PM, here is the answer in case anyone else is adding seats like this:

Hey Nick,
Thanks for complements. Yes, I used Honda middle seats for both the front and rear seat. Yes I built the seat frames. On the back seat I used some of the parts off original bench seat. Front was just a a square frame and tabs bent to use factory holes.

I hope that helps!

Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Sorry for the delay, just got back in town.

A few more things to help. Your seats came with the hook mechanism to remove from the mini van floor correct? You will need to drill the rivets that hold those on so you can remove them. I would make floor brackets as low as possible because these seats sit highter than your factory buckets. I bought the honda light gray. It matched chevrolet light gray almost perfect. I will get you the SEM dye color code when I get home this evening. Good luck, let me know if I can help. Show pics!

No, not everyday. Especially in the summer down here, the sun is brutal.

I'm in the far west valley. Up against the White Tank Mountains.

Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Finally picked the steps I want. NFAB makes them for a suburban so I'm thinking they'll work. A little bummed when I opened the box and they only mount to pinch seam. Might make a bracket that comes over from frame. Any suggestion??....anyway here they are

Good looking steps. I'll be watching the install. Front bracket would be pretty easy but the rear will be a little tricky with the gas tank in the way.

Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Ok, I got my steps installed.

Quick notes:
I ordered these for a suburban (its the closest thing they sell)
They were not packaged very well, have some nicks from banging against each other

This is a pic of the supplied hardware. Too big and going to make a mess of body/paint

So went out and bought new stainless

Had to make one trim to the center mounting point. Otherwise, these bolt right on.

Finished

They are pretty sturdy as is, if used just for steps not offroading. I'll still make up some support brackets eventually though.

Re: 1991 Crew Cab Short Bed Build

Steps and truck look great. You used suburban model because it is a shortbed?
I want to get a set of the 3 step ones for my crew. Yours must have a shorter wheelbase.
I lived the 1st 39 years in AZ. 35th and Peoria and 51st and Bell. Rode motorcycles all over the white tank area. Great Place to live! Love the Cards Plate!

Yes, I talked with NFab and found out they don't make steps for older pickups in this style. They did however make a set for an older suburban 76-91 (not sure why they start with 1976). I figured that would be less chance of having to completely remake mounts.

The six steps make me nervous because how much the frame flexes on these old pickups. I didn't want the bed and bars to contact....Hey someday it might go offroad.... or flex hitting a curb at the mall (I'm just saying it before someone does!)

How long ago were you out at the white tanks?...its pretty much all closed to offroad now, bummer because it used to be a cool place to go. I work and used to live on 67th and bell. Go CARDS!

Hey Carboncrew,

I love those steps man! Looking real sharp. I'm working on a 3 step DIY set for my crew after the short bed conversion. Could you possibly measure the distance between fender wells front and back for me? I need a project to work on while the guys have my truck...

Thank you....I'll get ya a measurement tonight (if I remember).

The only thing I was wondering about would be frame flex. It would suck to put the bed into the steps!
