Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
VT, I found the answer after reading posts on here for about 4hrs. The flow rate seems to be 25-30 cuft. I had tried 20 but it sounded like my 50cf tank would only last 5 minutes with that flow. Dialed it down to 5 and got the snap crackle pop syndrome I new was not correct. Also, apparently, using gas requires a hotter setting than with flux core.
Still interested to hear your experience though. Thanks

What gas mix did you get? What wire? The gas should make it burn hotter. I think 25-30 cf/hr seems right. Last edited by litebulblsc; 09-18-2009 at 07:25 PM. |

.023 with 75%Argon/25%CO2. It does burn cooler than flux, Verified by the other posts I read. Sorry VT, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Just getting around to adressing your question's, sorry. I'm run what you posted last, .025 wire with a 75/25 mix @ 20CFH for sheet metal. Anything larger gets the .030 wire. |

I sure did!
I'm finally getting the hang of it. After a little practice it's all good.

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Doing my pass. quarter. Had to replace the taillight section and the bottom corner behind the door. I've done my pass. floor section, inner/outer rockers, lower A pillar, lower kickpanel and the support inside the torsion box (the usual) using flux core. It turned out OK, but for something viewable from the outside I wanted to try and get the best welds I could so I stepped up to gas finally. After the pass. side it's on to the driver side and another two years Well maybe only one year, the driver side isn't as bad.

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Got the firewall in epoxy primer.
Kick panel should be in soon, need to finish the pass. 'a' pillar and go onto priming the dash & interior. If it dosen't sell soon, it's going outside for the winter. Last edited by vtblazer; 09-21-2009 at 06:33 PM. |

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
That's a thought, but an awfully long commute to the body shop for me.

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Still pounding away...
This morning's work got the pass. inner kick panel cut, shaped & tacked into place. With luck, I can stay in the shop for the whole day and finish the lower pillar area making the tub one complete piece. Sheet metal from Tri-Pro fit excellent. |

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Pass. rocker installed, blazer is now 100%.
Little more masking (masking sux) to do. Will be throwing on primer to the dash & floor areas next. Last edited by vtblazer; 10-04-2009 at 07:29 PM. |

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Tore it down a little bit further than I really wanted to but after looking at the small amount of stuff left under the dash, I deceded it was going to be a lot easier to spray in the Lizard Skin with it gone than with it there.
Turns out that there's also some surface rust under the upper-most dash anyway, so I'll put the POR to it prior to spraying on the bedliner. In case you guys are wondering...this is the tub that will be built as my driver, the one tons will be swapped over soon and the TPI'd/700r/241 drive train is soon to follow. Tub will be receiving both sound deadener & heat protection on the entire interior, under-side, firewall, under the hood & even inside of the front fenders. * The Lizard Skin product is 'paintable', and by using an additive that makes the paint 20% flexable, you can use whatever you want to paint it with. I'll be applying the same base/clear as the exterior to the interior. The nekked dash: Last edited by vtblazer; 10-11-2009 at 06:03 PM. |

Re: Little Body Work on the Blazer/Tub
Ya gotta hurry up and get the lizard stuff on. That CRAP I used from Smart Shoppers is beyond crap. Its shrinking and flaking off....... I can't knock'em to bad because everything else has been great but that liner stuff they sell is total ........, well you know. BTW, lookin' good.

Sounds like it's going to be solid. Should be nice and quiet.
