Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

Richard,
We do need to check out each other's projects, I'm just tied up straight, since I'm in source selection at work.
I normally use a cutoff wheel on my electric grinder, but I also have a Bosch sheer for curves. Unfortunately my plasma cutter is still in MA...

You did a nice job!

I’m actually buying a plasma cutter this week, your more than welcome to borrow it. I'll be working on my truck this weekend, swing by if you get the chance.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

Two things I was wondering about, Did you bend your own fuel lines? And were you able to use the stock emergency brake linkage with the rear discs?
I am completely impressed by what you've posted so far, keep up the great work, and please keep posting the pictures.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

JJ,
I haven't done any fuel lines yet, but will be using Aeroquip's socketless hose. I've used it in the past and it is great and eliminates the need for bending. Haven't gotten to the e-brake yet either, but I will let you know what I end up using.
Thanks for the compliments!

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

I have checked back several times, after showing the build to just about everyone that stops by and even cares about what I'm building. I'm wondering if you've gotten any further on the fuel lines? Can you tell me where I can find information on the product you're going to use?
Again, keep up the good work. For the record, the people I've showed your build were duly impressed.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

JJ, mud bogger is right, they are aeroquip socketless hose that you can get from Summit and probably Jegs. I used it before when I converted the truck to TBI and really liked it. It definitely beats bending steel tubing. I haven't gotten to putting the fuel system back together yet, but when I do I will post plenty of pics. Thanks for the compliments!

What do you mean by that? Just a gravity fed fuel line?

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

i was talking to someone about taking my fuel tank off the bottom of my blazer and running to full size kegs, and they told me it would just be easier to run gravity lines from them, i don't know what that is. i was just thinking about swapping my manual fuel pump to an electric fuel pump and just run seperate lines to each keg they set it up with a switch to change the tanks back and forth, for those long days in the woods or camping in the mountains. but i still dont know what a gravity line is???????????

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

i think they mean running lines from under the tank so its allways fed (disconnect the lines and the tank empties )
normally they run the lines from the top to the bottom

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

Mike, good to finally meet you at Carlisle! I can't believe I haven't updated the build in so long. Partly due to the garage being so damn hot, and also because progress has been really slow aligning panels and getting everything ready for the final body work.

I'm on my third 67-68 hood trying to get one that lines up well with my fenders. Seems like every panel for these trucks has their unique shapes, and they all fit differently. I finally started to fix the problem with my hood not meeting the GMC top grille bar nice and flat. I welded on some angle iron to the bottom of the hood to ensure that it was flat and now I need to shape the rest to of it to match the contour of the hood and bar.

One more weekend of that kind of work, then I should be able to start the filler work. I can't wait for fall and the cooler weather! Threw the toolbox in there becuase I wasn't sure if I had done so before.

Re: 72 K20 build thread, need good name

I didn't have to do anything, there is not interference between the alternator and the valve cover. I used a late model SBC serpentine system and had no problems with clearance.

72blazer_mud_bogger,
I should have those pics tonight, sorry for the delay.

Mike,
I do like it, still tweaking the settings on the gun, but bought a few different needle sizes, and that has helped. With all that money you collected selling at Carlisle, just go buy one, you'll use it for the rest of your life!!

I came home with a dollar after I bought all new sheetmetal!

But my new bed, floors and fenders looks nice.

You used expoxy primer after you had it blasted right?
