That's what they make grinding disc for.

Also don't weld with shirt tucked in or tennis shoes or wear boots with shorts unless you tape the top of your boots tight. I've been there and done that.

Re: Daverods project 66

Put my my pistons in my engine last night. Now I need to order a cam. I was thinking about getting a Edelbrock performer cam/manifold from Jegs. What do you think? Took the sides off my trailer I bought. Welded up most the holes. Should get my 71 sub this weekend. Flatbed trailer for free!!!! I should put it on CL before the neighbors *****.

Re: Daverods project 66

I don't buy from Jegs much, but Summit has the same cam as the Edelbrock Performer available in their Summit brand cams for a lot less than with the Edelbrock name on it.......same exact cam. You can also get that cam from Northern in the Speed Pro line for less $$.

Re: Daverods project 66

Guy dropped off my parts sub. $250 delivered. Looks like it has a 350. I was hoping to use the gas tank but it looks huge. Thought I better take a pic before I cut it up into little pieces

Re: Daverods project 66

Not to many good parts. I'm going to use the cross member and disk brakes/ rear end. I think I'm going to keep the engine and use it for a 383. I don't know about the trans. Other than that the thing is a rust bucket. The front windshield is good and the door glass is good. Other than that is going to the dump.

Engine and trans out. I was hoping the flex plate was good but it has some damage on the side of the gears. Hack and wack . A carpenter with a saws all is a dangerous thing.

Re: Daverods project 66

Took the front cross member out. Got rid of the cab. What a pain I did'nt have a title for it so it took longer to get rid of then I had planed. Tomorrow I'll take the rear end out, get rid of the rest of the sub. and get my garage cleaned up.

Re: Daverods project 66

5 Saws All blades later and I have what I really wanted, 5 lug axles, disk brakes and better gears. I did'nt really want the engine and trans but I'll deal with it. Salvage yard gave me $50 for the rust. Tomorrow I'll break it all down and clean it up.Parts fairy brought me my cam and intake manifold. All in all a good day, except when the high lift jack decided to slap me in the face. Got to be more careful when going down.

"Saws All" really helps. It's the third one I've done in 6 months. Helps a lot to just get all that sheet metal out of the way. Since I don't have a very big trailer I have get it into bit size pieces.

It snows lightly here, but rarely. This was unusual though. We got 15"s. I loved it with the Yamaha Rhino. I had a blast.

Re: Daverods project 66

Spent the morning breaking down the front end and cleaning up. Took everything to the car wash. $10 later things clean enough for sand blasting. Don't know if I'm going to paint or powder coat. Powder coat guy would'nt give me a price over the phone he wanted to see the parts. I'll break the arms down more tomorrow. Take the lower arms to get the joints pressed out?: exit:
