Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
My pickup was built in Mi as far as I know now. Thanks for the info. I'll keep searching. I bet you saw mine being built. I'm not old enough to have enjoyed that moment. lol

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
I've got one that was made in your plant in 75. It's a rusty clunker, still runs good though, thanks

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Yes, in fact: I stopped by the paint shop last night and the box is done. I will grab it on the way home tonight, so look for a flurry of activity over the next few days!

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
We're back!
That's in on Wednesday, back on Tuesday, for those keeping score... There is something that seems "so right" about using the truck to help in this process:

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
They taped off to save the "Unleaded Fuel Only" sticker, which I thought was a nice touch:
It keeps getting easier every time you do it (....trust me on this...):

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
She looks beautiful Keith. That was a nice touch with the fuel sticker. It's hard to believe how much of a difference a freshening up made. So now do you feel like you're back in '85?

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
First off, Thank you so much for posting all this interesting info.
2) If you prefer, we could start another thread concerning: If i could ask: There is recent "controversy/debate" that gm should shut down buick/pontiac/gmc etc. and only have chevy-cadillac. a) What is the real cost in having other, essentially duplicate brands? Specifically and for example how much more did it cost if any to put a gmc grill/hubcapbs/trim as opposed to chevy on a 1/2 ton pickup as both were assembled in the same plant with the exact same assembly persons? b) What are your thoughts on the matter of "shutting down" brands, i.e., pontiac? |

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
She looks beautifull and its great to use the truck as the hauler for her own parts especially with that nice wooden stand you made to get the bed moved around!
I have one with wheels on it made from square tubing. That is so helpfull and mine is a longbox! The use of the hoist is another good idea as i see it because my buddy and me had a hard time to put the box back on! Very nice work! Volker

Dennis - if you were closer you could have mine... LOL- I made it because I didn't want the box sitting down on the ground on the boxsides; the area under the pencil braces was rusted out and I was afraid it would bend the flange on the bottom. I made that one exclusively out of scrap wood that was laying around; the uprights are 4x4 cut two feet long, then the box was lag bolted to the ends through the box bolt holes. I added the horizontal braces to give it some stability. At that point I started to winch it up on the trailer and that's when I realized the legs were too narrow to fit on the skids (it's an open center trailer)... so I quickly added those crosscar 2x4's at the bottom. It worked out well; I could slide it/wheel it around at will, it put the box at a nice height for working on it and the guys in the paint shop seemed to appreciate it. K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Any specs on the wooden bed stand? Im looking at making something like that for mine, seems simple. :nevermind, I see you added info:
Awesome work, get the trim on the bed and it should look like a new (old) truck

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Got the trim on the bed tonight -
I used the same technique as before: You can tell it was starting to get dark out...

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
It was an option on some trucks insted of having an under mount you could get it in the bed
