Do i need to boost reference the fuel pump to bring up the pressure with boost? I plan on running the stock distributor, besides locking out the vacuum advance where should set the base timing to start tuning. I've read thru your thread and hopefully i haven't skipped over something important. I'm not looking for huge power, just like the idea of a turbo'd inline with air ride.
Ok, with my experience. You HAVE to get your fuel, timing, spark, and boost pressure under control.

-- I would recommend upgrading to a HEI. (easy to set timing curve- I can give you my exact setup) Initial is set at 8 deg. > all in is early 2500 rpm and locked out at 25 deg.
-- I modified my factory fuel pump. It is boost referenced from the carb hat. ** fyi, if you have not got a mechanical pump yet, get one from a 84 inline 6, the base pressure is 6-8, which will get you a little more than a stock 66 pump which is 4-6
-- I am also using a Holley 350 cfm which does just fine. I drilled my PVCR's to .078" which is too large. Go smaller. My jets are 61 right now with a 4.5 size Power Valve >>> that will probably be changed to a 2.5 soon.

I tell you what, this little engine / setup continues to amaze me. I am running right under 10 psi right now. I just finished up swapping my T5 for a 700R4. I will have to post a video soon. It pulls so strong.

That engine looks sooo cool! I bet it has great power! I am torn between rebuilding stock with 8 pounds of boost and a 5 or 6 speed trans...or a hotrod rebuild naturally aspirated. I know the hotrod rebuild will allow the engine to last alot longer then turbo charging. But we'll see! Anyway...yer engine is awesome!

Thanks. The turbo is great, but there have been times when I really question if the complexity is worth it or not. I totally dig the challenge and the mechanical side of things though. All it takes is a 10psi spool up and I say "oh yeah it's totally worth it!"

With that being said, my next mill will be a high revving 283 or 327. All factory looking, ram horns, oil filler tube.... But with beefed up internals.

That would be amazing, I appreciate any and all help. I am about to order the carb parts needed for the mods and wanted to make sure of the float. Did you run the extended jets with the notched float similar to this?

No jet extensions, they are not needed. You will need a nitrophyl float, drill out PCVR a little, JB weld the Hanger18 spots. Also, while your at it, get a high flow (.110) needle and seat. It helps with more fuel volume at boost.

* another key item, is a AEM UEGO Wideband. It is critical with tuning. Any detonation at boost = Bad News

Good deal. Thank you!

I just ordered the float, and a rebuild kit with the .110 high flow. See if i can workout the AEM wideband for a bday present.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Was wondering if you knew any where to pick up the internal wastegate turbo housing for the grand national turbo? I found aftermarket ones that would need a down pipe welded on which wouldnt be too bad. 55 for the wastegate housing and flapper valve. Or should I think about running an external wastegate? Picked up the gn turbo last night and it came with out the exhaust outlet, wastegate housing.

I am running the factory exhaust elbow. Look at the different Grand National forums for used ones for sale. A lot of GN folks upgrade that part to a big down pipe with a ext. wastegate.

Hey thanks for the tip. Got on a couple diff gn forums and found a guy with pages of parts for sale. I emailed him so hopefully its a cheaper option than the rjc or aftermarket.

Hey sorry to keep hijacking your thread.

Did you have your hei on before you started the turbo build? I'm asking because before I decided to turbo this 292 I rebuilt the old points style distributor completely, I mean if i have to run a hei unit Im not out a whole lot of money. I would rather not detonate with the points bec that could get expensive real quick.

I was just wondering if it was possible with the old dizzy. I personally like the look of the dist. and coil hanging off the side of the motor when you pop the hood.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Quick question, all the Holley 2300 cars I find for a nice price specify that they came from a Ford, any reason this would matter going on a 66 with manual tranny? I'm guessing no as long as I can hook up the throttle and I don't have to worry about a kickdown bracket in my case.

I'm not an expert on the Holley 2300 or any holleys for that matter but when i was researching for mine, I do not believe they should be different but I could be corrected. At first I saw a deal on a old circle track holley 2300 and thought about it then found this carb and have no idea what it came off of. I know it was off something with a 4bbl intake because it came with 4bbl adapter.

Well considering the price on some of these 'ford' units it might be worth my time to pick one up and give it a shot.

Yes I did, it was one the first upgrades I did. It is a little bulky, but performs superior and is easier to tune the advance curve.

Yes the Ford units are a bit different. The one I am using looks just like a 4150 holley 4bbl, cut in half. All parts for 4150 are interchangeable.

I might have a 2300 Holley 350 cfm that I can sell you. It's all stock and would a rebuild kit. PM me if interested.

So trying to straighten out the timing for my 292 once the turbo is in. Will the timing be the same for my 292 as your 250? with 8degrees of initial?

It will probably be close if you are using a HEI. I have mine set a hair under 10 deg right now. It starts hot well and seems to like it.

** more importantly than initial timing, you MUST know your timing curve and see what and when it stops advancing. You can check this with a dial back timing light. I have one light and one medium spring in my HEI. It allows it to advance quickly and MAX out at 25 deg. Total timing. I do not run a vacuum adv can. If your adv gets too high with boost, it will go lean and KaBoom quicker than you can say "ah shhhhht"

Lol that would be no good. So i have my HEI in now, didn't have time to fine tune the timing just set it back to how it was stock. Need to get a new timing light with dial back. How did you know you had an HD wastegate on the GN? I have no idea whats on mine now.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Hey Shad, I saw your video on how to mod the wastegate on Youtube and found you here...this truck is simply amazing! Though I have a Dodge D100, I have the same plan as you, just a bit more behind where you are in your project. I forget...did you end up going with the Holley 2300? That was the "carb of choice" on the slant six forums as well, but they said to find the 500cfm model and mod it for blow-thru setup. So far I have the T04 GN turbo with the same wastegate as you (gotta run to the hardware store to find a spring and washers), just got the turbo exhaust elbow, and I'm in the middle of designing a bracket for the turbo so the snail doesn't put all the weight on the j-pipe and cast manifold (which are prone to cracking). If you wanna check out my build as well, you are more than welcome to check it out here http://www.theturboforums.com/thread...ix-3spd-manual And any/all advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated, since both of us are building identical setups and both have pretty much the same goals. I am subscribed to this thread and am eager to see more updates!

Thanks. I checked your build out and cannot wait to follow the progress.

Yes, I am running a Holley 2300 350 cfm model. If I were to re-do, I would go for the 500 cfm.

Are you running an intercooler? If so, let me know how it turns out. I am thinking of running one.

A random shot of JED, since I re-worked the original hubcaps.

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Haha yeah its gonna be slow progress but better than rushing into it! Btw, I went to the local hardware store and bought the washers, a spring and 2 nuts for the wastegate and I think I got it right, except I need to hook it up to an air source and test the psi and fine tune it.
I do plan on running an intercooler. Im supposed to be getting a free one from a friend of mine but has to get it out of a car thats buried in the snow at the moment.
Ugh...I love looking at your truck...its so cool!
Oh yeah, I think I was just talked into getting a turbo header made for my Dodge...more big bucks to spend!

If you wanna check out my build as well, you are more than welcome to check it out here http://www.theturboforums.com/thread...ix-3spd-manual And any/all advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated, since both of us are building identical setups and both have pretty much the same goals. I am subscribed to this thread and am eager to see more updates!
you have a real nice Dodge there...you know Dodge built a super six 225 with a 4 bbl on it. I saw a few back in the 1970's when I worked for dodge in Dallas and Lubbock. welcome to this forum from Texas ,and have fun with your truck..

Re: Inline 250 - T3 Turbo - w/ Video

Haha thanks but I dont want this thread to be a discussion of my truck, although I do appreciate the compliment. And the 4bbl was called the Hyper Pak. The Super Six was a 2bbl option over the 1bbl.
Anyways, back on topic. Lol so what do you have planned next for this truck?
