All I did was figure out where I wanted to mount the bags.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Tried my hand at some lead body filling. I certainly prefer it to the more modern body fillers.
I also sprayed it with some eastwood 'after blast' since I wasn't putting any primer on it straight away. Before and after pics... |

Yep, sometimes you have to trust your fellow man. Everything is new on the engine including the short block from summit, we'll pull it apart & see

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
it may have the wrong head gaskets for those heads ?
I had a problem something like that when I put some late model heads on a 1964 327 . the older style head gaskets didn't work with the late model heads I had . |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Thanks guys, as you can see the heads were never painted(they rusted as soon as it rained here) so I was planning on pulling the engine to paint it black & clean up the engine bay anyway.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
You are correct Jim, it was the wrong head gaskets allowing the coolent to bypass the cylinder head & to the oil passages to the lifter valley 2 new head gaskets, solvent flush the oiling system & some fresh oil & filter then back to the truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
I had added a receiver hitch to my 60 k10, since it was for a newer chevy the side brackets didnt line up with my frame. I cut them off and bolted the hitch directly to my frame (I didnt want it hanging down anyway.
So I had the hitch ends in my iron scrap pile, and I needed to make new seat brackets as my seat was sitting too low in the front. The ends worked perfect...1/4" steel, 3 mounts into the floor on each side, and 4 mounts into the seat. It is VERY sturdy...sure beats the 2 2x4's that were screwed together and a long bolt going thru them. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Tried to install the vent glass into it's trim and broke the litte pivit tab at the top of the trim in the process. So the glass is fully installed in a broken trim. Now I have to get the glass out of the trim without breaking it and have the table welded back in and then repaint the frame. Not a fun day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Progress is Progress as my good friend Ta2Don always says.
I bought a new, adjustable Panhard Rod from Performance On Line for the truck as the various geometries change when you lower the truck. Tried to undo the previously lubricated nuts keeping ithe Panhard Rod captive.... Fail. Out came my faithfull rattle gun and in moments we were in business. This really is a great tool when doing a resto or trying to get 50 year old nuts undone. Wear and tear and rotten bushes. Once that was done, I could at last do the rust converter on the prop shaft, diff and rear axle and trailing arms. These will all get painted black, like the rest of the underside of the truck. I am in two minds about the lowered springs, the red I put on them is looking worse for wear, being rattle can red, so do I paint them red Hammerite or black??

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
My brother came by to help me bleed the brakes, we realized that for what ever reason the OEM push rod was/is too short to actuate the new single master cylinder. We tried adjusting it out up to a 1/4" but that was still not enough. SO we found some 7/16th. fine threaded rod and machined down one end allowing for and extra 1 1/4" length, works perfectly. We also fired her up for the first time in about two years and realized that the Alt. fan blade is making contact with the shelf. so I need to get a 2" shorter belt to bring the Alt. inward.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got it running for the first time since I tore it all apart. No fires yet so it's looking good. Had a hell of a time getting fuel to the carb. Double checked the new fuel line and all connections twice. The pump did fail but a swap still didn't fix it. Turned out to be the open port on the back of the carb for the pcv hose. Nothing like racking your brain then finally getting it.
