Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Friday was productive...
I was able to get the Alternator wiring complete... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Off today and tomorrow, so why not jump into the Brake lines... ![]() After locating all my parts and pieces, it was off to the parts store to return 2 hoses previously purchased and get the correct one as well as some brake lines complete with fittings... Here's the result of the first trip... ![]() Here's the rubber hose that will feed the lines to each wheel cylinder... ![]() ...and a shot of the line feeding the driver's side wheel... ![]() I was planning on getting a bit further today, but a thunderstorm seemed a good enough reason to find my way to my recliner and vegetate in front of the telly for a bit... also gives Jojo a place to hide from the thunder... ![]() More Brake line work tomorrow, and I may even try to get energetic enough to redo the rear brakes, especially replacing the wheel cylinders... til next time guyz and gals!!! ![]()

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
nice work Don… I also like that green brake line, bends so easy, no tools required.
Tomorrow is a good day for brakes… It funny how dogs are afraid of thunder. My 2 big ol' shepherds hide from storms. Hope the boogie man doesn't make loud thunder sounds. |

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanks for the updates and chat Don.
As Clem says, these brake lines are another cheap, sensible thing to replace on our trucks. 50-ish year old brake lines probably can do e With it.

Definitely! You get drenched in sweat before you even get to work on the truck! Me and Carson worked on the GTO yesterday, but we took many A/C breaks and drank lots of water. You're making good progress man, it'll be on the road real soon.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Well another job 95% complete...
![]() Spent yesterday and today plumbing the brakes... ![]() ![]() Started at the back, cleaned up the plungers for the wheel cylinders and installed the new ones in order to run the lines... ![]() ![]() ![]() Although the last pic doesn't show the completed line connection, it is now complete, Master cylinder to wheel cylinders, still gotta fab a bracket for the rubber line... ![]() Today was the front... that is, after a trip to Little Rock for my wife's routine Doctor appt, then Truck time... ![]() ![]() Slowed me down for about an hour, then back after it... All of the hard lines, Front to Rear are plumbed, and ready for bleeding once I get the rotors turned, and the rear shoes replaced... Other than that, I need to secure the lines and finish up protecting the Wiring harness to the rear... Also a good time to mount the Fuel filter and pump back near the tank... Used a paint can to coil the lines coming from the Proportioning Valve... ![]() Pass/Side line... ![]() Driver's/Side back to the tee... ![]() Another shot of the tee, I took the line past the tee and looped back to facilitate easier servicing down the road. The tee is right at the back of the crossmember, so hooking the line up from the rear made sense to me... ![]() ![]() Caliper in place, waiting on me to modify the end to work with the drop spindle... As it is, the end that bolts to the caliper is bent in a way that will run the rubber hose into the upper ball joint... after turning the rotors, this week, I'll address that mod... ![]() ![]() As I draw closer to driving this for the first time, the little things still needing attention seem to add up... ![]() ![]() Til next time... ![]()

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
After work today, I wrapped the wiring harness feeding the rear in a split loom with the lights wires exiting the rear driver's side frame rail and the Fuel Pump and sending unit wire exiting the loom a bit earlier in the run...
![]() ![]() ![]() I also mounted the fuel pump and pulled the rotors so I can turn them at work tomorrow... ![]() After some online research, I determined this tank is a LMC offering... Seems it's a 21 gallon side fill version. It was with the truck when purchased and unfortunately, no sender or paperwork can be found... Lastly, I called LMC attempting to figure out what function the fuel tank ports serve... Wasted that phone call as LMC offers ZERO tech support... ![]() This is a photo of the driver's side of the tank... I believe the center port, just to the left of the fill tube is the vent, and the one to the left of that I am unsure of... ![]() This is a photo of the right side , the small port on the side has me confused... it is directly opposite of the smaller fitting on the Driver's side... Looking through the sender hole I cannot see any tube that would draw from the bottom... ![]() I will be ordering the sender soon and the pic on the website isn't very helpful, but it looks like there is a pickup tube with a screen attached... so any help is appreciated as to the function of these ports... ![]() ![]()

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Hey Don, you're moving right along.
The big port next to the fill is a fill vent that runs up to the fill spout, one of the smaller ports might be a vent port to a canister and the other small port might be a return port. I've not seen your fuel sending unit but some times they have the fuel pick up tube and filter/screen/sock attached. If you're using an in tank fuel pump and sending unit the vent and return may be built into that unit. Good luck on sorting it all out, I know you can do it. Take care.

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Thanx Guyz!!!
![]() Another few items either finished or nearing completion... ![]() This weekend found me focusing on Brakes... It's good to be able to stop... ![]() I started off by getting the Front brakes finished up first, earlier in the week I turned the rotors and then after re-installing them I modified (Bent) the hoses. They had a 90 degree bend which had them pointing directly into the Upper Ball joint thanks to the 2 1/2" Drop Spindles... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() New pads installed... ![]() ![]() Yesterday, after getting the second caliper bolted in place, a typical afternoon thunderstorm kicked up stopping the rear brake work... The rears had to be done with the truck in the Sunshine... Today my focus was getting the rear brakes complete and ready to bleed the system... Here's the second rebuilt Drum set up just before re-installing Drum and Tire... ![]() So, after a trip into town for some parts I neglected to purchase, fuel line, and a hose to connect the Booster... ![]() ![]() Just after I snapped that pic, JoJo decided to bark... and the hawk flew into the trees... ![]() Booster hose in place... ![]() Truck getting some rays... ![]() ![]() A while back, a year or more, MarkeB01 offered some parts for the asking... He listed the items up for grabs and after all was said and done he hooked me up with a few items, including a fuel pressure regulator gauge as well as an isolator... Here's the gauge in it's temporary home under the dash... ![]() I still need to grab some fittings to finish the install... Thanks Again Mark!!! ![]() Brakes are ready to be bled, so is the clutch hydraulic system... Closer and Closer... ![]() Ordering my Fuel Sending unit soon, still need to get another alternator too... ![]()
