Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I found the wing window gaskets among the stuff that my FiL had in the garage. Purchased long before he died, 14 years ago from the looks of them. They do seem pliable, though. Hmm...need a place to park the truck inside while that gets done, if ever.

Ordered calipers, rotors, bearings, seals, wheel cylinders, shoes, and everything else needed for a complete brake jog. Next weeks project. Looking to stop on the proverbial dime and get 9 cents change. Much safer ride than it currently is.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Not today but on this past Thursday I reclocked the front coil spring on the passenger side of my C10. A little over a year ago I had a local shop replace my lower control arms with some new aftermarket ones. They didn't quite get the afore mentioned coil spring quite right. One of the coils on the spring was interfering with the crossmember. I drove it like that and one day while on an extremely rough patch of road the coil spring shifted. It constantly squeaked on rough roads. I finally had enough of the squeaking and shabby handling of the front end so I undid the suspension on that side and repositioned the spring correctly.
Wow, what a difference. Now the truck handles and drives so much better. I wish now that I wouldn't have waited so long to correct it. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I put in the drivers front with no problems. Passenger side not so much I buggered up the threads on the lower so I need to get a new one . Looks like they are original based on the rivits still in the uppers. But with the same tire I got a 2 7/8" inch drop not to much sag in the originals . It will go up a bit with the larger tires. Old tire 29" the one I'm using is 30.6" dia

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Mine is back in the shop today that did the rearend rebuild and gearing upgrade so they can fix the whine/howl they ended up with last time. Adjustment of pinion or backlash is off. Can't wait to get it resolved for two big truck meets that are coming up here in Washington.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Final touches on my 71 Cheyenne interior. I used 1972 doors, door panels refinished in Rustoleum “Chestnut”, I Re wrapped the Deluxe woodgrain door inserts, Dark Saddle ACC carpet, Truck World Cheyenne Super Saddle seat upholstery, Deluxe gauge package with tachometer, GM tilt steering column, Comfort Grip Sport steering wheel. Cheyenne Super glove box door treatment.
3rd picture is what the interior used to be.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Dropped . Also got a surprise changing out the ball joint went with the cheap Duralast instead of the TRW unit since I plan on adding discs and would have to change them again anyway . Well surprise I took out the ball joint and it was wrapped in TRW badging .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I gave mine a bath. It rolled out of the shop for the first time 30" lower and in only 56 days. Still need the mufflers and the wood reinstalled. Some how I lost the sill plates in this ordeal.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Put on a new seat cover, which meant removing the seat, all the floor coverings (original black rubber mat) cleaning the whole thing, installing some sound insulation (dynamat type product)
Then put it all back together. I have also recently replaced the original quadrajet with a 1978 build unit with APT. Put a kit through it from Cliff R, set it up as stock and also did an electric choke conversion. Truck has never run better. |
