PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
I started this project a while ago....so some of these pics are Mar '07 till the present. Originally we remove the suspension only for powder-coating...but with the addition of the 630HP LS7...we went all out with a body-off resto-mod....
Enjoy !! Just getting started on the pops Vette (father-n-law) Body is in the 'blocking' stage....had to be pulled from a 'tweaker' body man. That deal went sour.... In the meantime...the body is being hanked to powercoat the frame. The suspenson was already done... Here's some pics.... Mar '07 - - - -

Here a couple shots of the chassis and the lift....The 2x4 tubing with the chain wrapped around it is just a temporary deal...It will have a conveyor type set-up with a hook.
Couple more... - - - - - - -

Here we un-wrapped some 'gifts' from the coaters...
- - - After the a-arms, we run the brake-lines....some tapping of the threads was required... - - - Shot of sway-bar and springs.... - - Not sure what I'm going to do with this...mabey just polish, mask and paint: - - - - - More shots of suspension.... - - - -

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
Somehow, the rear brake line (along the frame) was coated black instead of silver....but I guess I will let it slide this time !!! Our coater is a great guy, so it's cool.
- - - - We forgot to include the rotors in the coating, so they along with the calipers will get a nice coat of high temp caliper paint (black/silver) - -

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
Some things I would of done differently...like big A$$ brakes....different suspension, etc.etc...but this is what the customer wants.
Everything on the chassis, however is NEW.....and it is a Vette, not a Caprice so we have some decent stuff stock already. I have a lot of work ahead of me...but slowly but surely, it will take shape. Here are a few more pics....... More stashed parts to be cleaned: - - - - - - Rotors cleaned, painted and ready to go on: - - - - - Rear trailing arms on: -

Preparing the rear crossmember for powder-coating:
-- - - - - Made a template and fabbed up a simple mount for the -8 and -6 fuel lines. I figure since the body is off, might as well bend up some nice hard-lines, instead of flexlines.... ....... - - - - - - Drill and tapped the frame for the mount.... - - - - - -

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
So that Raptor undercoating came out nice? I've seen it for $100 for the kit and am thinking of using it under my cab.
nice work BTW...

I started on the rear.....reassembled the e-brakes, cables and lines:
- - - - - - I hit the e cables with some silver.... - - - Here are the 1/2 FP bungs for the custom deep sump I am going to build. They are next to a 1/4 FP. I need to get a 3/8 FP for the top of the tank to use as a return.... - -

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
I used "STRAIGHT LINE STEERING" they are in San Jose, right off of Phelan and Monterey Road.
That is ALL they do...and are very, very knowledgeable. I forgot what we paid, but if was reasonable...and didn't even put a stratch in the coating.

WOW!!!!!!!!! Ive seen you mention this thing in a few different threads. Awesome work......if that engine ends up being too much of a problem you can go ahead and ship it over here to Az!!!!
Is it just the pics, or are those tires pretty damn big? I thought Vettes were space challenged; those things look meaty. It was nice looking at all the pics in a row.......Joe hasnt discovered this thread yet!

Thanks man.....Actually, that's the replacement radial tire size that normally gets put on Vettes, to replace the Bias...I forget the size, but I'll get back to you !!.....

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
...more from Mar 7, 08
- - Well, I progressed a little bit further on the Vette. I'll tell you, the body straps work great !! I've had this body going up and down several times already, and more to come I'm sure.....This really helps with the mock up of things. My fuel lines worked out great, with plenty of clearance thru out the stock location on the frame, even with the extra diameter of the -8 line. I fabbed up a cool fuel pump/filter mount, and used heavy-duty vibartion mounts to support it. Used the lower existing holes (spare tire) and drilled & tapped the upper two. - Found center: - - - - Basic design: - - - - - - Since attached the filter right to the pump (to eliminate a hose), it sat 5/8" off the plate, so I made up this simple spacer out of solid bar, and tapped it out - - - -

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
Finished it up....
- - - - - - - Now, I still needed to find a spot for this MONSTEROUS oil tank... - - I removed the washer tank mount in hope of placing it here... - - However, with the heater cover/blower motor (which I have no idea where it's at) there it would'nt fit. All hope was almost lost, untill.... - I removed the vacuum tank (do we really need this?) and it will be placed there !! - - Pretty tight fit...but it fits !! I will have to change that str. vacuum port to an elbow (vacuum to regulater) If you look close, you can see it. - - - Once I find the heater cover...it will probalby have to be massaged too.. -

I drilled some start holes for the new fittings, but need to pick-up a 37/64" (??) drill bit for the 3/8 pipe port.
- - - Body up and down... - - - - Next I moved back to the fuel lines... - - - - - -
