Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
I started pulling the bed boards today. Just sawzall'd the bolts, no way were they coming loose! Most of the boards were so rotten they came out in pieces. Still have a few left in it. Should get it all pulled tomorrow. Will probably just go with black boards and strips with new stainless bolts.

Last week was premiere for welding, have been practising on the floor now to make it more or less waterproof.
This is the result from trying to patch the kickpanel on passenger side. Tell me what you think!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Howdy, I pancaked my crossmember and started adding tube control arms. Too bad I didnt read enough first and pancaked it 2 inches instead of 1.5 inches, Now I get to notch the frame a few times in front and move my steering box up and put a U joint in my steering shaft,,.......
Im thinking of just cutting a couple flat plate shims and raising my CM the half so I can just bolt everything back up, still thinkin on it though, Take care Andy

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
few moar, I was gonna paint it gold and call it the Goldmember,.... but I ran out of gold about half way through, so behold,,,,, the Greenmember,
Middle pic shows where I ran the exhaust outside the frame rails. They hang below the frame about a half inch still but I think I can still use it,

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Not quite working on the truck...... BUT.....
My welder stopped working a while back, and I need it to get the patch panels on the truck welded up. Last night I removed the plug, cut about 2 inches off the cable, refitted and replaced the 13A fuse. Plugged it in, the cooling fan came on, no light behind the power switch. I then welded about 300mm on some plate and other than having to set the feed, power etc. I just need to practice loads so that I get the patch panels right first time around. On the way home yesterday I stopped by in a welding shop, and bought my birthday present from Nicola...... £48.00 Should help with cutting and grinding. Mate Martin will be around later for pizza, porn and probing my welder with his tester. Hopefully he will find all is fine. Looking forward to the birthday prezzie he got his boss to bring back from Thailand. When I went there a few years ago, I could not get a plate. He had some new ones made, and the used one comes from his Ford Escort he is having rebuilt in Thailand. Nice addition to my collection.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
i saw where a guy used strips of tape to hold the string and gasket all the way around the glass to hold everything together till he pull the string and rip through the tape as he went around the gasket and just pull the ripped tape off from both sides

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Not today but a couple of weeks ago. While rebuilding my front suspension I misplaced the Power Steering Bracket I purchased from Captianfab. What an excellent piece - it comes with the bracket, written instructions, a template, and even the necessary grade 8 nuts, bolts & washers, it's a complete kit! Anyway after finishing up my 73 rebuilt disc suspension installation and taking the truck for a shake down cruise (what a mess) the passenger wheel was pointing almost straight and the drivers wheel was pointing left a little - enough for the truck to wander all over the road. The previous owner had already installed a 73 or so power steering box with the stock suspension. Here's the kicker though. He used a cutting torch to blow holes through the frame and then just shimmed the box out using 3/4" - 10 nuts for spacers. Needless to say the frame cracked around the 3/4" nuts. I welded up & ground the cracks in the frame and using Captainfab's template I cut some 3/16" plate to use as a backing plate on the inside of the frame rail. I drilled the holes to match Captainfab's template and bolted it all up. I set my steering wheel straight, using a 4' straight edge on the drivers side tire, turning the tie rod sleeve adjuster I set the wheel sighting straight down the side of the truck, adjusted the passenger tire to match, tightened everything up and took another ride. Truck drives great, steering wheel is centered and the truck doesn't wander. I still need to get it aligned but at least it's drivable. I also need to address a pop or miss at idle & only @ idle. I'm guessing a lean idle condition. Time to drag out the vacuum gauge and tach & monkey with the idle mixture screws.
Now it's time to sit back, relax and have an ice cold margarita |
