Inching closer to more color. Holes for rear trim and fender emblems. Bed assembly complete. A little seam sealer squeeze out at the tubs...per factory. And now the bed goes on the rotisserie to make access a little easier.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

A quick word on NOS vs reproduction stuff. We're always trying to be smart in our allocation of resources...with the goal of getting the best result. There are a lot of NOS pieces in this truck, but there will be reproduction stuff too. The quality and fidelity of repro pieces is highly variable. Some things are identical and great value and a lot of stuff (as you all know) is junk. I have had good luck on some repro pieces and then other times, you know it's a problem the minute you lay eyes on it. Look at these OE taillight bezels against these reproductions. There are visible gaps and short finish lines. Even the tailgate piece is too long. Point is, this is an area where NOS makes a lot of sense (and is still good value...for now).

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

On my 67 i got all my mouldings from mar-k .My tail light mouldings are the only pieces that did not fit. They were flat and wouldn't follow the contour of the tail edge of the door. Nos ones fit flawlessly.

That's been our experience so far too. Lower body moldings look very good...but the taillight trim has about 5 strikes against it.

Regardless of fit, the aftermarket trim is thinner than the originals, so those PITA spring clips can leave marks that show through on the other side if the utmost care isn't exercised.

Good point. Luckily two things we got...care and resolve. Resolve, because even with care sometimes you gotta take a few swings.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

I couldn't be happier with the color. It's funny, I have been forcing Eric into all these bad painting outcomes so as to replicate factory Fremont results. I feel like he'd taken all he could bear...because this is nice. Fremont never laid it down like this.

Hood, tailgate and rest of the bed to do yet...but this bit sure feels like a big step forward. These next few weeks are going to be fun.

Thumbs up Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

If I ever run across my Grandfather's 1970 K20 again, I will have to build it.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

Happy December everybody. Here are a few post Thanksgiving pics. Eric got paint on some more pieces. First and foremost was the tailgate which can no longer be considered NOS...now it's just a tailgate.

Next was the bottom half of the breather. The one I've had on the truck has just been a place holder. Eric did a little surgery to replace the diaphragm. I still don't have vacuum hose that I love. The replacement lid seal wasn't a perfect match either, but close enough.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

Finally the booster. This is my original booster. I sent the booster, master cylinder and distribution block to White Post Restorations. If they all work, I guess I don't have any real complaints...but they charged a mint and were a little bad on communication, took forever and the finishes were not what I'd consider concourse. And candidly that's the price point they're hitting you at. It also seems they were just outsourcing much of the work anyway.

Eric basically bodyworked the booster when it got back and made it look new.

I had a stamp made to reproduce the broadcast code stamp that was on there from the factory. A lot of pressure...kind of one shot. A lot of practice stamps, but I didn't smoke it when it was game time. Cut me some slack...it's curved and slick. But I'm living with it. I've got other marks that I've put on here that look too perfect. I'll put the yellow inspection mark on when it's installed.
