Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Well i spent the late afternoon on this past friday finally getting back to my 69, well i decided to remove the fuel tank but it still had fuel in it, so being thrifty (tight) i couldnt see losing 4.00 gas, so i put it in my 02 tahoe, guess what i was doing today (mon)..pulling tahoe tank to clean out all the bad gas and replace the fuel filter...no more saving old gas for me...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Today I finished what has been a long, arduous week of fixing, tuning, fixing again, tuning again and so on and so forth, ad infinitum.
In all I have done: (in no particular order) Rear brake cylinders, shoes & hardware Front brake calipers, rotors, wheel bearings pads and lines Install new HEI distributor, plugs and wires rebuilt an old '66 holley 4bbl, only to discover that the body was tweaked, causing the secondaries to flood the motor. Rebuilt a Holley 650 double pumper and installed it. MPG?! Whats that? Adjusted the shift linkage so that the indicator points at P (still doesn't show right for the rest of the gears - WTF?) Re-wired the running lights, turn signals and brake lights. (PO did a 'custom' wiring job on this truck, which meant that every time you hit the brakes, the turn signals quit working) Set initial timing to 8* BTDC, adjusted to near 12* BTDC based on vacuum gauge and engine idle quality. Tuned Carb (vacuum gauge method) Adjusted Idle Bleed Brakes (took FOREVER to get all the air out) Install new throttle cable (will go Lokar next time, as the Spectre unit was less than stellar) Oil/Filter change Cooling system flush/fill Repaired starter solenoid (worn/corroded contacts, will be replacing with a gear reduction starter soon enough) New belts for Alternator & P.S. Repaired door lock mechanism on Drivers door Cleaned and lubed door lock mechanism on Passenger door On the agenda for tomorrow: Test Drive. If nothing egregious rears its head during the TD, will be doing a full detail clean, including wash/wax, then installing some chrome pieces that have been patiently waiting to go in the engine bay. At this point, I expect the exhaust to fall off. Its about the only part of this truck that i haven't touched in the last week.. Time for a beer! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the passenger window, locks, handles, inner and outer "wipers" and all the door hardware in. Got the weatherstripping in on the passenger's side. Tomorrow, all the same stuff for the driver's side. Hopefully.
The pic on the right is inside the passenger's door (sideways...sorry) showing the lock tumbler and the outside door handle plunger placement. The tumbler goes in AFTER the main mechanism in order to more easily clear the rear channel

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Replaced squeaky fan belt, bent the inner fender up to clear the power steering gear box, tightened down the valve cover and fired her up.
Found out why my battery was slowy dieing, the plug on the back of the alternator was loose and just 'looked' like it was plugged in when it wasn't. I will fire her up and take her for a cruise.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Just got my new rims and tires put on today. They are 265/75/16 Michelin LTX MS wheels on 16x8 Ion Alloys 171 series wheels. The whole set cost more than the truck did.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the driver's door done today. Except for one part...the inside door handle do-hickey had a broken spring. I had two additional driver door donors.
One had no guts in it. I had to use the impact wrench on the other one to get the other door handle mech. out. When I pulled it, I found THAT spring was broken, too. I dug around in the mess of boxes. Found one driver's door mechanism. The spring was broken, too. Damn! The door lines up pretty well. In case you're wondering, the cowl is just sitting up there for storage so I don't step on it. Looks crooked, huh? Hahahaha!

Well it wasnt exactly today but what we did was load it with brush and haul it to the dump. Good thing we can just air up for the additional load.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the inside of the drivers door painted! When this dries I will hang it, then I can paint the outside of the cab!!! Got the hei put in yesterday, and had to butcher an after market passenger side fender last night, to make it "sorta fit".(got the fender from certifit) The fender stuck past the door a good 1/2", had to cut the upper mount off, chop out enough to make it flush, and also trim some of the bracing on the back. Fits good now, and only cost $75, and a few hours work.
