Semi-floaters have been good axles for me. I'm a full-floater guy from way back...had them in most of the trucks I've owned. I've had semi-floaters in three vehicles with no problems. I always intended to swap in full-floaters and never did. The truth is,I never needed to...apparently. Never heard any issues from others,either. I just like the bigger stronger stuff...by choice and perhaps not necessity. I have a semi-floater in my Jimmy and I will say it's big and bad compared to a 12-bolt.
