Re: my new truck

Personally, I'd keep the 62 C-10

I have to disagree. The vented cap is where the road draft tube or pcv is supposed to pull clean air into the crankcase from; it couldn't do that otherwise**. Later engines* pulled clean air from the air cleaner and had a fitting on the side of the valve cover for a hose that connected there to do so; those use the non vented caps.

*Note: I haven't seen one with it so far, but the early 194-292 script valve covers did have a flat spot where the grommet for the hose to the air cleaner would be, so I would assume that some might have came like that in some configuration.

**Also, earlier stuff actually had louvers in the valve cover for ventilation, so would have used a non vented cap.
I stand corrected (OOPS) looks like it had 5/8 hose to air cleaner http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...315_0439963538
