Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
Heck, convert it to 3 on the tree. Nobody knows how to drive one anyway. Seriously though, I spent 31 years in a plant and we used fork trucks. Ours kept going AWOL and we searched for solutions. A retired Army captain was our foreman and he said they could only keep their equip safe and secure with a hidden keyed switch under the dash, that interupted the ground. That kept them from hotwiring the ignition as well.

Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
Regarding the post above #18, a 4x4, manual trans, dual stick TC and a few PTOs might help. Lock the PTOs together?

Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
They steal catalytic convertors off cars in public parking lots. If passersby dont think a guy under a car with a saw cutting off parts is not out of place, do you think a guy under the dash or hood will look out of place. Whatever you do I would do it in a way you can hide what you do. Car thieves go to car shows/cruises too. If you got your hood up at the show and they see you have a battery disconnect when they go to steal your truck they will look for one. Mount it out of sight and run the battery cables from the battery to it. Anyway thats my 2 cents worth

Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
car thieves stop "hot wiring" vehicles years ago. they back a wrecker up to the vehicle, slide a boom under them, pick them up and drive off. literally, gone in 60 seconds, or less.

Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
When I took my '66 Mustang on a RT66 trip I did 3 things as theft deterrent. 1-trunk mounted battery with disconnect in the trunk. (The radio and computer had a dedicated fused power so they didn't reset.) Can't hot wire it with no power. 2-lock cable so the hood couldn't be opened to try and hot wire and 3-a cable lock through a front wheel at night in the hotel. Dragging it would make noise when the lock hit the fender opening. Only took a few minutes to set up each night. None of this stops a determined thief. None of this stops a rollback or dollies. But perhaps a novice thief or joyrider takes a look for a bit easier target. Anything that takes time or makes noise is a good thing for you.
And as said before, a really good guy with a repo wrecker can get your vehicle with only a few inches of space bumper to bumper in well under a minute. Then go a few blocks to put straps and safety chains on. At that point he just looks like a normal repo guy doing his job. It's a sad commentary that making the lives of repo drivers safer/faster has made it easier for thieves. Search for "repo wrecker demo" videos and you can just how fast these guys can work.

Re: Remote Control Battery Disconnect
Not here in NM. We're more traditional and take pride in our hot-wiring skills.
