Re: High pitched whine ????

If it only whines when you turn the radio down, then try turning it way up and see if it goes away. LOL

Seriously, sounds like a front engine accessory to me. Dropping the belt temporarily would be my 1st step. If you had pwr steering, I might suggest a vacuum leak on the suction side could make that kind of noise.

If you have a mechanic's stethescope(sp?), they can be real handy for finding this kind of thing. If you don't they're not that expensive to pick one up.

Installed new alternator,,,,,, Now I have a key off drain,,,,,,,,,,battery has been dead the last 2 mornings,,,,,.

Made a test light to check it and Yes I have a drain,,,,,,

It's raining like "cows pissin' on a flat rock" so I'll try to figure out what is making the drain tomorrow.

Re: High pitched whine ????

truckdude, that was what I was kinda thinking, as the alternator was the only thing I changed. I hadn't mentioned this liitle oddity before,,,,,after I replaced the alt, the radio would stay on for 10 seconds after the key was shut off!! It's an old Sony that does goofy stuff (like the bass suddenly kicken in) so I thought it was the problem. I took all power away from it the first day I had the problem. Battery was dead the next morning again.

Had to work today and now its 40° and wind blowin' about 50 mph (yeah I can be a wuss !!!LOL) Till I figure it out i'll just keep taking off the bat cable so it doesn't drain . "Poor people have poor ways"

Re: High pitched whine ????

Your new problem is why I bought new bearings for my old alternator. I have heard to many horror stories about people that put 2 or 3 different remans on before they get a good one.
the reman process is terrible nowadays.

Good luck!

Jeff

Re: High pitched whine ????

Bet y'all are gettin' tired of me !!!!!

Now my trucks sitting at work and I'm home,,,,,,,it started like usual this morning and I went to work. Tried to start it to come home for lunch and it would turn over but not start. First thought was no power to coil. hooked up hot wire to battery and hit it with a shot of starting fluid (just in case it wasn't gettin' fuel). It started,,,,, got out and took off hot wire from battery to coil. It died. Did the same thing again and it won't start. Checked voltage to coil with key on. Got voltage (about 8,,,, it's a points dizzy with the white resistor on the firewall). Guess I get to check out the points and rotor and coil and condensor tomorrow. Sorry y'all,,,,,,, just get a little depressed when that trucks not sittin' in the driveway !!!!!!!

Re: High pitched whine ????

When I read the title of the thread, my first thought was that the high pitched whine was coming from the passenger seat, along with complaints about how much time and money you spend on the truck, why can't we get a new truck, etc!!
