Re: Chopped tops?
Awesome, thanks for the information and the pictures, guys.
I'm definitely not a metal worker, I'm just barely getting started into the whole car fixing upping thing. I'm mainly just looking for ideas/inspiration. I've got no problem taking it somewhere to be chopped if I ultimately (but not likely) go that route. It looks cool, but with all the precautions and concerns that have been brought up, it doesn't seem like it's something that I can pursue this time around. Maybe when I have more funds available to me. P.S. - The truck above this post is HOT |

I didn't have my digital with me,so we used a throw-away.I had to split it both ways and use an extra roof for filling in.It looked like a jigsaw puzzle at the rear corners to get everything to line up.I'll see what I can do to post em. *** and a shot of it behind the pink freak..which was chopped 8 inches BTW..***

my dad had a '66 short/fleet that he started to turn into a pro-street in the early 90's i guess...well, about as far as he got was dismantling the truck & having the cab/doors chopped 3"....we still have this cab in storage....it is a rust-free cab, & we still have the matching rust-free front fenders...i'm debating on swapping cabs/fenders next spring, then sell my BBW cab to help fund finishing the chop top...just as i was planning with my current cab, i was thinking of doing a factory 2-tone paint scheme with trim...maybe keep steelies with stock hubcaps, but also have a nice second set of custom wheels/tires |

Re: Chopped tops?
I chopped mine 3 inches. Lined up the b pillar in the jam, pie cut the rest of the b pillar to match. pie cut the a pillar top and bottom to get them to line up. one difficult thing with these trucks is that you have an inner liner that needs to be chopped as well. the rear window I made a template out of wood and took it to a local glass shop to have it made. the windshield was done by a guy in Ontario, CA I believe called the Glass Shop on Holt or Mission BLVD. the way he cut the glass was scoring little pieces front and back then using pliers to break off the piece. I have not done my side glass yet as I want to install power windows and need to modify my door for the 1 piece glass. I was told a local shop here in Vegas called Safelite auto glass will come out for around 20/square foot will make any flat glass and install it at your home. The chops are a great look. Ever since I did mine, the stock roof just looks too tall

Re: Chopped tops?
that sounds better...guess i've gotta weigh the options when i find the best quote...i could sell my current BBW cab to offset costs; then use a rust-free '66 chop top cab & pay to have the glass cut...or i could just keep my current BBW cab, fix the minor rust issues, & sell the chop top cab
