I think I'll call Comp Cams and Texas Speed tomorrow to see what they suggest. I saw this one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-54-418-11/. It has the 112 LSA so that should be nice and choppy. I think I want this thing to be a beast. The only thing, I noticed the operating range is 2000-6800. The other one was 1300-6300. I don't know if that means I'll have to keep it revved to get power or not. Another thing I'm wondering about is vacuum due to the power brakes. I don't know how much I need to keep brakes operable. Probably a dumb quesiton. I'm getting more excited because I think this is actually gonna happen. The shop is making it seem like it's not that big a deal to hook me up.

you can run a vacuum cannister, or hydroboost if you think you won't be getting enough vac for the brakes.

You shouldn't need a vac canister or have to worry about power brakes with your plans. I run a waaaay bigger cam in a 370ci LSx (30* of overlap @.050") and don't have any problems with the factory vac assisted brakes.

That's good to know. I'm trying to keep this as straightforward as I can and don't want to do a bunch of extra stuff if I don't have to. The shop told me I can use my stock radiator and add some electric fans. I am also trying to find info on using the compressor in the stock location, but I can't find it. I know I've seen it somewhere.

Well Comp Cams got back to me today and recommended the following from their LSr series:

LS1 Camshaft - Hyd. Roller - 1500-6700rpm - Adv. Dur. 269 Int./277 Exh. - Valve Lift .607 Int./.614 Exh. - Lobe Angle 112 deg. - Competition Cams Part Number 54-456-11

I must say, that is much bigger than I thought they would suggest. This seems like it will be a pretty nasty cam. The thing I worry about is piston to valve clearance with this big of a cam. This will also increase the budget due to having to get dual springs or high dollar beehives. What are some solutions if there is piston to valve issues? I may have to keep looking if this cam makes me have to do a bunch of other stuff to make it work. Anyone have any thoughts?

I forget the adv. duration (272/281?).....but its 223/231 @ .050 .610/.617 lift 112 LSA

That's not a very big cam AT ALL, actually just about the same specs @ .050" as GM's hotcam. You won't be anywhere near P/V clearance issues, and it'll have a mild chop at idle with great torque production.

Awesome! I guess I am thinking of it being big for a 350 cam. I like the numbers on this cam and the springs will be about 100 more than what I was gonna get. Thanks!

Im not sure if you picked mounts yet but like someone else said dirty dingo has a good reputation, I've been looking to do this swap myself except with 04 gto ls1 and a few good companies for wiring are currentperformance, speartech, nelson just make sure to research the companies you pick see what people say about them.

I don't know what engine your picking some ls are a little different on the accessories but for some relocation brackets in case you find out something won't fit try http://www.kwikperf.com/index.html

Absolutely.....but gross lift has absolutely nothing to do with how a cam "behaves".

I don't think I'll have to upgrade the stall converter and I really don't want to. I just got this tranny from Phoenix transmissions in July, so I don't want to mess with it.

I was gonna get the dirty dingo mounts for their flexibility. They are also only about 30 bucks more than the transdapt. I am going to drop the engine in without ac at first, but when i can, i will add the kwik peformance bracket and sanden compressor. i am still debating the wiring options. it really depends on whether i get the engine with everything. if i do, i can save some money by going with one of the mail order tuners. i was thinking of the painless kit, but i like the idea of working with a stock computer so that if i need to go to the local speedshop, they will be able to work on it.

Well I got my engine today! It's an '04. I got a DBC throttle intake to go with it. I also got a computer for an '02 engine. I have started narrowing down where to get the wiring harnesses. I am trying to decide whether to go with a painless kit or PSIconversions. Any opinions?

Have you looked at the holley kit. Just seen it on tv last week end. Pretty sure it is a plug and play type. I want to say it is about a grand. But only has like 4 wires to hook up. Congrats on the motor.

Yeah I'm keeping it fuel injection. I was thinking about the Painless kit because they do free computer flashing when you buy one of their harnesses. I like the PSI prices though.

I bought the Painless chassis kit from the cab back and I got the PSI wiring harness for the motor re-wire.

I called Jon at PSI about 5 times with different questions and he seemed to have all the answers I needed. Painless was okay to talk to but their direct price was $300 more than what I bought their kit for from Summit.

Plus Jon said he'd reflash my PCM for free (I pay shipping) in case I change my tire size later on --- I'll probably get it dyno'd and reflashed locally once it's on the road though.
