MSD Billet Distributor?????
been looking and reading about the MSD Billet distributors. i am just wondering if i will get any better spark (longer & hotter, or??) than i have now with a GM HEI with MSD 42,000 volt coil and MSD module (good solid spark to 9,000 RPM). this would the #85551 distributor with a blaster 45,000 volt coil and a 6AL (includes rev. limiter) ignition box. what ya all think????

As long as your setup keeps the plugs burning clean,I wouldnt change it. MSD is nice stuff, but with the HEI,you can get parts anywhere. I have upgraded to a hot coil & module,& it made a diff over the stock pcs. If you need to, you can add the 6A box to your HEI........69 longhorn.

your not going to notice any increase in performance since it's a street truck. What you will get is a better built distributor that should last longer due to the bearings and billit housing

The biggest advantage to the MSD distributor is the ability to PRECISELY control the total mechanical advance and even adjust it to match the initial timing that matches your motor. HEI is notorious for not having enought total advance and requires using the vacuum on a ported source to increase advance. This is not as accurate as using mechanical. It is possible to make a big cam idle and run good at part throttle by tailoring the initial and mechanical advance for WOT and using the vacuum at idle/part throttle to increase advance and smooth the power delivery.
