So were all factory roll bars black, or were any painted body color from factory? Was a roll bar an option on a pick up, I've never seen one?

Mine was white to match the exterior of my blazer. My blazer was orig. nasty light blue/green though.... I re-painted the roll bar flat black to match my interior, it looks NICE now. I dont remember what was under the white paint but i think it's been a couple colors in its day. Sorry for this Non- answer.

Mine was found in a CALI junkyard, it was originally yellow ??? Now it is gloss
black, I did not paint it, it came with the deal, no idea about an OE color

but were dealer installed options. The one I have has a thin
coat of gloss black paint. Now I have to either paint it or powder
coat it. Looks like paint is going to be it (POR-15) because of
the differance in cost. You guys have any other suggestions?

Speaking of the roll bar, I want to put one in my 70 Blazer, Where's a good place to buy one? I haven't had much luck in finding anything yet.

Agree with Meathead95, Powdercoat the roll bar.
Am experimenting with POR15 and have done part of my frame in the back. It's a pain to use in that its a multi step process, for a really smooth finish, items need to be sandblasted and POR15 sprayed on. For areas that are in sunlight you need to paint over with conventional paint which requires an extra step so it will adhere or a POR product. As far as the rollbar, it needs to be sandblasted anyway so have it powdercoated at the same time. I got my roll bar for $40 but then spent $100 for the sandblast and powdercoat, I think its worth it.

and go with gloss black.

Hatguy, Gloss black is good. When I had mine done I chose a satin black. It's not glossy but its not flat either, I think it looks nice. Any good powder coat place should be able to coat in many different colors and finishes. Good Luck

it gloss black.
