gonna install a big motor and discs, help needed.
Hey everyone, i recently picked up a front end from a 72 gmc with disc brakes. I also got the brake resiovor,if thats what you call it?(thing infront of the boosters) I think the swap should be fine. My questions are: the big motor is a 76 500cid cad with the 400 tranny. Anyone here ever installed one of these monsters in our trucks (my truck is a 69 gmc swb stepside with a wimpy six) from the looks of things i know that i am going to have to alter my driveshaft and fab motor mounts, do you think that the stock rad with electric fans or the fan from the cad will keep it cool and would i have to tear up my floor to fit the tranny in place? thanks for the much needed help. pumpkin truck.

I cant say on booster clearance,I did run a 425 cad in the longhorn for a while(manual brakes). You will need an eldorado pan & pick up,& watch the head clearance(#1 ,or the foward back is on the pass side on the Cad). The cad mounts are also foward ,as compaired to a chev,& there a couple different pump bottoms/filter adaptors. I didnt have to cut the crossmember with the 425 setup(for filter clearance). The stock manifolds for a sedan deville should fit ,Or some guys were using modiied BB chev headers, with a cad flange welded to them. You will love the dist clearance! Best to set it in, check clearance at the firewall, bubble level& go from there. Good luck....69

THanks for the info 69 longhorn. From your pic, did the missing drivers side fender skirt fit? What are you using to cool the motor? i am going to use headers from a place called maximum torque specialties, www.500cid.com . there, i found when you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on projects, wayne boggs 67 cad powered truck. it was helpful. longhorn, what tranny were you using, if it was the stock cad, what did you use as the crossmember?

the inners werent in. I run a 4 row core,& had a stock type fan. The trans was a med lenght 400 turbo(olds or buick),& had the stock crossmember(it needed to be moved). I have since gone back to chev(cheaper to build),but I think that the Cad is an awsome mill! Good luck.....69 longhorn.

I just learned that the exhaust manifolds are going to have a clearance problems with the frame rails, does anyone know what type of headers would fit? thanks

I didnt have any trouble with clearance, used a set of manifolds from a 78 sed deville......only draw back, these manifolds had a couple dimples that could be restrictive. The engine was also set back,& I had to cut & rework the firewall around the heads.......69
