Oil Pressure - "Driving" me crazy
Need some feedback on some findings. When accelerating, my OP drops to 15-30 PSI. Under hard acceleration it will stay there a while until I reach cruise. No problems while cruising, 60 PSI like all normal. If I'm going 60 and I pump WOT, Oil pressure drops from 60 down to 30 PSI. I've even seen it get as low as ZERO from a stop but return to 60 once in cruising state. When I take turns or come to a stop, pressure will drop to 15 PSI. Anyone?
Yeah, it's got oil in it. Mobile 1. ![]() |

Maybe the oil pickup fell off of the pump...

have you changed out the sending unit? I would try that first, as it would be easiest and cheapest.

Check the oil level, make sure its level. Buy a mechanical oil pressure gauge just to verify the findings. Could be the bearings are about ready to go but it could be other things. It could be a bad gauge, sending unit, wire connection or mechanical malfunction. Also it might be a good idea to pull the valve covers and check the oil returns. Then you will get to see more of what is going on after the valve cover comes off.

Being as the motor has less than 5k, I'd hope its not something such as the bearings. But we will see. |
