floor replacement
Hi all. I am new to the board but have enjoyed reading every single post for the last 2 months in the last week. Seems I can’t get enough. I have a chance to pick up a 72 CST 4x4 has about 9 inches of lift and has been used pretty hard for 500$. It is in restorable shape though. One thing that has me concerned is the rear floor is nearly rotted out. Do they sell replacement floors?? I noticed someone in an earlier post had replaced his with the bed of a pickup. What are my options? Half of me thinks do it and the other says take the money and buy one that’s been restored. The last option would probably be easiest on my marriage. HEHE

Buy the best truck you can for the money you have to spend. That is the rule of thumb on almost any restoration of a vehicle. Trust me on this one. By the time you find a donor bed floor, remove it, remove the floor in your Blazer, and have it replaced if you can do it or pay to have it done. You will be better off with another blazer if you can find one.

Thanks 72CSTC5,
I have done several remans, because thats what they've been. They have all had to be Remanufactured. Or at least thats how they've turned out. Didnt know about the floor. Did a bunch of searches and didnt find any information on it. In fact thats how I stumbled across this website. Thought maybe it is a pretty common problem and that they had after market rear floor panels. Sounds like a good business model?? huh |

I know they now make bed floor sections now in some different configurations. There is no complete across the back floor pan, I am sure that one will be coming. There is now the back bedsill available that is new. (the angle piece that the floor pan sits on. I have 2 blazers and both need the rear floor sections at tailgate replaced. Many do. What happens is there is a rubber seal that sits back there that fades quickly and before long when you drive water from the road is coming in. I seen blazer with no rust except for the rear section. I saw one post where a guy bought a patch panel for the middle of a bed that was full width. he cut wedges out of the end, beat it down, tack welded, ground them down and skimmed them. It looked factory. But there are no easy or cheap ways

Re: Floor Replacement
I just went and looked at it again. The rear portion is rotted. What has changed my mind from purchasing it though is the floor is rotted on the side, which would make up the inner rear wheel wells. Several large holes. What gave them away, since he has them covered now with some sort of aftermarket rubber mat is that there was mud on the roof of the top just above and to the sides of the rear seat. Too much work... That CST in Oregon is one nice rig though and the one out of So Cal for 4700$ is a steal. There are about 150 of them roaming around here local, just find the right person with the right frame of mind. I appreciate the replys. And will be an avid member and reader for sometime to come.
