Underbed Gas Tank
I have a 67 Chevy stepside...can't use a saddle tank...and I'd like to install a fuel tank under the bed. I can't stand the smell in my cab. Been drivin her for 8 years and I hate it. Also like to use the space for speakers/storage. Early Classic Enterprises makes a perfect fit tank with all hardware but it's a whopping $600. I already have a donor gas door for my stepside fender that matches the contour of it...I use my truck and I can't see having to drop the tailgate, get gas drops on the tailgate and wood floor just because it's easier to install a filler in the floor. I'd like a bolt in kit if anyone knows of a company that makes them cheaper.

Kaycee,
I have a stepside, are blazer tanks between the rear framerails, where the spare tire should go? My truck aslo has a trailing arm rear suspension, so a tank will only fit behind the rearend between the framerails....I know a lot about the trucks, but hardly anything about the blazers! Thanks for the help |

Blazer tank is relatively easy to install. You'll need to fabricate some brakets, but it shouldn't be too terribly tough to figure them out (using search to look at other's installs works very well, most of them use a combination of stock factory brackets that are already in the truck with some angle iron to mount the tank straps to.
I installed one in my 80 by replacing the factory brackets with the factory brakets from the Blazer, but that causes the tank not sit level, which gives a false reading on the fuel gauge. Since I don't plan to keep the 80 for too much longer, I'll just stick in a resistor / capacitator as needed to make the reading as close to right as possible. I'll be installing another tank with an intank pump on the frame I plan to use with my truck, and will be installing it using angle iron and the relocated factory brackets. You'll find plenty of information regarding the swap for both your body style of truck, and my body style of truck using the search function As far as the filler neck goes, if your stepper has the marker lights on the fender, you can convert it to a gas door and route the filler neck to it. With my 80, I am likely gonna be making myself a new filler tube out of some exhaust pipe that runs up to the factory door rather than try to cut out and relocate my gas door.

Up here in Alberta, Scotts super trucks has them for 375 Can, thats the whole kit straps sender etc. (almost free in USD) You can get steel or polyelthene for the same money. One of the conversions around here the guy used a door from a 88-98 p/u body.
